From posh spice to up and coming fashion designer
Victoria Beckham is a British fashion designer, a businesswoman and a style icon. After hitting the front-page news as part of the popular British all-female pop band back in the nineties and as a wife of the devilish handsome footballer, David Beckham, she has arisen as a fashion industry force to be reckoned with. Victoria Beckham's real name is Victoria Caroline Adams, and was born on April 17 1974 in Hertfordshire. Born to parents, Jacqueline and Anthony Adams, she is the eldest among the three siblings, Louise and Christian. She first entered the fashion world when she worked for Rock & Republic brand in 2004, where she developed a line of jeans called VB Rocks. In 2007, she released a line of sunglasses called dVb sunglasses in 2007, followed by a line of jeans called dVb.
It was in the year 2008 when Victoria launches her clothing line, called VB, a feat that fashionistas believes the mother of four was trying to fit in, following just like the rest of celebrities turned fashion designers. But in actual fact, she was actually embracing her first love. Citing her during an interview, "Fashion always has been my passion. As a child, I was awed watching my mother dressing up, and as a teenager, I often browse through fashion magazines. It certainly felt like a hobby to me”. VB was primarily known for its dresses, but soon expanded to separates and luxury handbags.
Since the establishment of her brand in 2008, Victoria Beckham's posh label has grown from a small collection of nine dresses in 2008, into a fashion label that is fast gaining an international reputation as she earned £15million in the first quarter of 2011. British Vogue editor, Alexandra Shulman once said in 2010 about Victoria Beckham, "She takes conventional dresses and makes them stand out."
Known for its bold, distinctive and dubbed as the modern "language of clothing", its wardrobe of garments and accessories is now offered in 500 retail stores in over 60 countries globally. Each collection is a reflection of Victoria's own personal style to cater to the needs and desires of intercontinental women who loves her label of luxurious and favorable clothing. Her fashion empire consists of her highly successful dVb jeans label, dVb sunglasses range, the Victoria Beckham dress collection, her new “Victoria” dress line and a range of luxury leather handbags. Today, the 41-year old's fashion label is popular among A-list stars and fashion icons, as Beckham's designs are known for their chic, simplicity and various uses of bright colors.
Victoria's secret to success
When Victoria Beckham ventured into the fashion world by launching her own clothing line in 2008, very few took her seriously and according to the mirror UK, a British online tabloid, it was reportedly said "The consensus regarding Brand Beckham remains a hearty ‘Thanks, but no thanks". Despite the criticisms being thrown at her, Victoria stuck with it and since then has built a global brand that has garnered her a huge fan following and is on the watch to become the next influential fashion designer, after Dame Vivienne Westwood. During the preview of Victoria's dress collection at New York Fashion Week, Anna Wintour, the editor of American vogue was reportedly said, "Don't underestimate her."
Victoria's success of becoming the next IT fashion designer was not an easy feat. The key to her success is Victoria's dedication, an intrinsic appreciation of what women want to wear and a small team of designers who worked hard to design garments that is close to Victoria's vision. She says during an interview at Parsons School of Design, "I give 110% when I go to work, and I expect that from the people that work with me. I have a fantastic team – a very, very small team, but a fantastic team."
Celebrities wearing Victoria Beckham
The road from international pop star to a renowned fashion designer does not run smooth, unless you're Victoria Beckham, of course. She managed to design garments that meet the A-list's need for red-carpet ready dress that are elegant yet understated, and obtained herself a swarm of famous fans in the process. Take a look below at which of her celebrity friends were spotted paying tribute to Mrs Victoria Beckham.
Hollywood superstar Cameron Diaz is a big fan of Victoria's line, choosing her designs to wear at Oscar parties. She says: “Victoria’s clothing line is amazing. She is super talented. I’ve never put on a garment that fits the way hers do. They’re amazing, I love them.” Another fan, Oprah Winfrey, who had battled with weight issues in the past, looked fabulous during a charity event, donning one of the Victoria's designs, proof that you do not need to be a size zero to wear them.
When Sarah Jessica Parker was invited to a reception by Barack Obama at the White House in 2014, she chose one of the Victoria's creations, a stunning fitted coral dress. Cheryl Cole was also spotted donning Victoria's designs at the 2010 Pride of Britain awards and soon became the talk of the red carpet at the event, wearing a floor-length pink number. Model and TV presenter, Heidi Klum is a long-time pal and an early supporter of Mrs. B’s venture into fashion, rocks a black satin dress way back at 2010's amFAR gala in New York. Other A-list's stars who loved Victoria's designs including Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Dannii Minogue, Elle McPherson and Kate Winslet.
