Samsung has recently announced an upcoming addition to its tablets portfolio – the Galaxy Tab Active 2. On paper, this tablet seems to house a commendable list of new and exciting features that befits a tablet released in November 2017, safe for one – its display.
Display that Slightly Disappoints
Samsung has always been known for producing stunning displays on its devices, from its flagship smartphones to televisions. Hence, we can’t help but feel a tad disappointed that the Tab Active 2 comes with a 1280 x 800 display, especially since the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 smartphones are equipped with Super AMOLED 2960 x 1440 displays. Hence, it seems that the display for this upcoming tablet is somewhat lacking for a tablet that is released in a year where Samsung has experienced breakthroughs for display resolutions on its devices.
Solid Specs All Around
Apart from its display, the Tab Active 2 sports a flurry of features that tablet users can anticipate.
Firstly, the Active name attached to this slate is not just for show. This rugged tablet will come with military standard MIL-STD 810G certification for increased hardiness to survive excessive pressure, temperatures, environments, vibration, and drops. It also has an IP68 rating for protection against water and dust. With an IP68 rating, the device is able to escape unscathed when submerged in up to nearly 5-feet of water for up to 30 minutes.
Powerful Core to Enhance Overall Performance
Powering the Tab Active 2 is an octa-core Exynos 7870 processor backed by a Mali-T830 GPU. The inclusion of the octa-core processor should translate to smooth performance for various uses including multitasking, gaming, and browsing the Web. The device is equipped with 3GB of RAM with 16GB worth of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD. Combine these specs with the Android 7.1 Nougat operating system and you have a productive machine that is more than capable of handling your everyday tasks with ease.
Note 8 Inspired Features
The slate draws inspiration from the Galaxy Note 8 for some of its features, which has also made the Tab 2 Active even more desirable. One of these features is the S Pen support, with an S Pen stylus slotted into the integrated holder on the top of the bumper case. The S Pen stylus provides more versatility in terms of how users can use the tablet. Moreover, the stylus is also IP68 certified which means that is can be used in the rain or survive an accidental drop into the sink.

Besides S Pen support, another Note 8 inspired feature on the Tab Active 2 is the facial recognition system. Although the tablet comes with a fingerprint scanner that is embedded in the home button at the front, the facial recognition capability serves as an extra security measure to unlock your device with.
Commendable Battery Life
As Samsung is primarily targeting business users with the Tab Active 2, it goes without saying that productivity is undoubtedly important. Hence, this tablet is equipped with a 4,450mAh removable battery that should be able to easily power your device through the day. Moreover, the device also supports reverse charging, meaning that it can be used to charge up other devices.
Overall, Samsung has done an impressive job with the Tab Active 2. The tablet is expected to go on sale at the end of November 2017 and should be priced in the mid-range category. In the meantime, you can check out other Samsung tablets to give yourself more options.
