Latest Video Imagines New Design for Google Pixel 2 XL
A new render video has rendered online, which imagines a new design and schematic of the upcoming flagship from tech giants Google. The Google Pixel 2 XL smartphone is purported to be the successor to the popular Google Pixel XL that was released last year. The original Pixel handsets managed to impress smartphone aficionados, hence the Google Pixel 2 XL is expected to achieve better success than its predecessor.
According to the latest video on the Google Pixel 2 XL released by ConceptCreator, the smartphone will be a bigger variant of the Google Pixel 2 just as its name suggests. The new video also hints that the legacy duo-tone panel will continue to be used by Google on its upcoming flagship device. The Google Pixel 2 XL’s primary camera along with the LED flash will be placed at the top right end while the fingerprint scanner remains in the centre of the rear panel for easier reach. You can watch the video here.
On the front panel, the smartphone has a large display with curved glass on top and minimal bezels on the edges, a design that has been quite popular ever since its appearance on the Samsung Galaxy S8. The built-in speakers have been moved to the front panel as well as from the bottom grill. On the top of the front panel is the selfie camera, sensors, and the speakers. The smartphone is expected to be available in three colours – red, blue, and grey.
Despite the recent increase of rumours and speculations circulating about the upcoming Pixel 2 smartphones, there is still no news on when smartphones are set to be released. Earlier this year, Head of Google Hardware, Rich Osterloh confirmed with Android Pit that a successor will be released this year, although the official date is yet to be announced.
Major Leak Suggests that Google’s Pixel 2 XL Should be Highly Anticipated
The first significant leak that reveals more about Google’s next-generation flagship – the Pixel 2 XL smartphone – has been spotted online. So far, the only leaks about the Google Pixel 2 XL were about its codename, but a new benchmark test for the Google Pixel 2 XL has appeared online, listing several details about the smartphone.
Uncovered by WinFuture, the test results claim that the Pixel 2 XL will be featuring a 5.6-inch display with 2k (2560 x 1312) resolution with finger gesture support, a 2.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM, and 128GB of storage. Other noteworthy features that smartphone aficionados can look forward to including an Android 7.1.1 operating system, a 12MP rear camera with 4K video recording capability, and a 7MP selfie also equipped with 4K video recording. The screenshot for the test results is as seen below.

Based on the specifications released, the standout feature of the Pixel 2 XL is its resolution. Its 2560p x 1312p display means that Google is following the current industry trend of adopting high aspect ratios. The device should sport a screen-to-body ratio of almost 2:1, similar ratios that are featured by recently launched smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the LG G6. This could also indicate that going forward, Google will be pursuing an all-screen design for all its upcoming additions to the Google Pixel family.
The revealed information serves as strong evidence that the Google Pixel 2 XL is a serious contender for the flagship crown, potentially giving the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 8 a run for their money. Unfortunately, there are no official image leaks of the Google Pixel 2 XL now, but they should be appearing sometime in the future as the phone’s launch date inches closer. Google Pixel 2 XL is expected to be released in the second half of 2017.
Google Pixel 2 XL Leaks Reveal Potential Specifications
Although many forefront Android manufacturers have unveiled their flagship devices, Google’s upcoming Pixel line remain somewhat mysterious. Google’s hardware chief, Rick Osterloh has confirmed earlier in the year that the company will be releasing new additions to the Pixel line and successors to the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones released last year. Osterloh also shared that the upcoming Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will be targeting the high-end segment.
Over the last few leaks, multiple leaks appearing online have suggested that Google is not working on two, but three devices this year. German publication WinFuture revealed code names “muskie”, “walleye” and “taimen” was discovered in the Android Open Source Project. These code names raised interests since they are synonymous to Google’s tradition of naming its smartphones based on different kinds of fish. The Pixel and Pixel XL launched last year bore the code name “sailfish” and “marlin” respectively.
Considering the size of the fishes in real-life, experts predict that the walleye refers to the Pixel 2. As muskies are typically bigger than walleyes, the “muskie” code name should then be the bigger Pixel 2 XL. The “Taimen” code name, however, remains a mystery, as experts are debating if Google will be introducing a Pixel XXL or a next-gen Nexus tablet.
Recent tests conducted by renowned benchmarking software Geekbench on a prototype Pixel 2 revealed positive results. The device’s performance is comparable to the Samsung Galaxy S8, a device many has deemed as the most powerful Android device in the market thus far. The tests were done on a prototype model, which means that Google still has time to tweak and improve the final product. Moreover, the device runs on Android’s next-gen operating system, the Android O. Hence, theoretically the Pixel 2 XL’s specs and overall performance should be able to match or even surpass the Pixel 2.
