Today, e-commerce startups iPrice Group and PriceCheck launch their gap year program that offers five tech graduates the chance to work and travel in both Malaysia and South Africa. Successful applicants will not only gain real world working experience with two of the most exciting startups in emerging markets - consisting of tech experts formerly at Microsoft, IBM and Rocket Internet - but also experience unique travel opportunities.
Selected graduates will have the opportunity to work in two totally different places of the world in multi-cultural environments. First, Malaysia, a country strategically positioned in the heart of Southeast Asia with a booming e-commerce sector predicted to become a $200 billion industry by 2025. Second, South Africa where the digital economy is the most developed one in Africa and one of the fastest growing ones in the world.

Through the Tech & Travel initiative, five software engineer students will take part in a 12-month program, where they will have the opportunity to work across two continents for 6 months each.
Chosen applicants will be part of iPrice Group and PriceCheck’s tech teams, developing, testing and deploying code that is used by millions of shoppers each month. Always on the edge of the latest technologies, graduates will be using Angular JS, Google AMP, Elastic Search, PHP7, Amazon Web Services and Docker amongst other technologies to effectively translate requirements into technical designs and solve challenging problems.
To apply for the gap year program, applicants are required to submit their resume with a video cover letter not longer than 5 minutes. Successful applicants will be chosen based on how they can best present themselves on the following topics:
- Tell us your passions, your skills and motivation for the application
- Highlight an economic or social challenge faced by Malaysians and/or South Africans today and tell us how technology can be used to overcome it
- Tell us two unique things you look forward to experience that is only available in Malaysia and South Africa
