It's New York Fashion Week and everyone's taking down notes for upcoming beauty trends and looks for spring and summer of 2018. Rihanna, however, ain't taking notes - she's taking over NYFW with her brand's new SS18 collection in collaboration with Puma and it got us all shookt!
Some of the show's highlights are millennial pink mountains, death-defying BMX stunts, and actress Kaia Gerber, along with stunning collections from the pop superstar at Manhattan's Park Avenue Armory last Sunday.
Being the queen of extra, Rihanna couldn't have done it better than opening the catwalk with four somersaulting motorcyclists over the mountains set up on stage. These high-flying stunts drew breaths as it came close to the light rigs on the ceiling. Being a performer herself, this Barbados bombshell certainly knows how to make an impression.
Following this death-defying act, Fenty again captivated the crowd with a barrage of futuristic couture pieces that are totally wearable. Take a look at the collection yourself.
According to Rihanna, "this collection is a mix between two worlds: motocross and surf. It was a challenge to bring them together but it ended up being the perfect combination". Aside from high-fashion looks, the collection also featured curve-hugging monokinis and bikinis which are perfect either for streetwear or pool parties.
The high-flying BMX stunts serve as an inspiration for the collection. Biker suits in cobalt blue, lime green, and orange along with wide-legged pants, spandex, and oversized jackets, jumpsuits, clunky creepers, and high-heeled flip-flops give it a good interpretation. Collaborating with Puma, it is only natural to see all sports-inspired looks.
Of course, it wouldn't be Rihanna without a show-stopping ender. Out of nowhere, she appeared at the back of a BMX bike and did a victory lap around the stage wearing a khaki corset-sleeve top, green track pants, and high-top leather boots.
As breath-taking as the collection, the crowd was also equally star-studded. Whoopi Goldberg, rapper A$AP Ferg, and Selah Marley are just some of the many names in attendance as well as Riri's mom Monica Fenty in which the fashion line was named after.
Aside from a successful fashion line, Fenty also has a beauty collection which was just released in Malaysia. Following the footsteps of Marc Jacobs and Kat Von D, Fenty Beauty is released under LVMH’s Kendo Brands and like its predecessors, success is merely an understatement for the Riri with her beauty line.
