May the 4th Be with You: Celebrate Star Wars Day 2018 in Malaysia

25 April 2018 | Febriana Ramadhanya

Every May 4th brings you closer to A Galaxy Far, Far Away. On this day, fans everywhere celebrate the franchise by dressing up as their favorite character or donning their favorite Star Wars merchandise. Here are some clothing, accessories, toys, and figurines you can splurge on to commemorate the legendary space opera on Star Wars Day 2018.

Official Star Wars Merch

Just like many other big media franchises with huge followings, Star Wars carries their own official merchandise. These Star Wars official merch range from graphic t-shirts, bags, stationery, toys, jewellery, costumes and many more that are offered directly by Disney.

Because there are so many Star Wars merchandises out there, you need to know how to distinguish between the official and fan-made Star Wars products. Original merchandise would typically have a price range of RM100 up to a whopping RM6,000 while fan-made goods would be priced much lower (some as cheap as RM3 and above).

The Swiss footwear retailer doesn't just provide thousands of Malaysian kids with their school shoes. To celebrate Star Wars Day this May 4th, Bata Heritage collaborated with Star Wars to release newly-designed Bata Bullets and Bata Tennis. The Bata Bullets design was discontinued in the 1970s but these high-top sneakers were brought back in 2016 and it remained customers' favorites ever since. Two colorways of the Bata Bullets will be released: one in white with blue detailing and one in black with red embellishments. The colorways perfectly symbolize the two sides of the Star Wars story: the Resistance and the First Order respectively.

The Bata Tennis Star Wars-themed shoes, on the other hand, will be released in three variations. Instead of focusing on the colorways alone, these low-top Star Wars Bata shoes take inspiration after three popular characters: Darth Vader, R2D2, and Stormtrooper.

The Bata Heritage x Star Wars collection will be available at the Bata store at Suria KLCC on May 4th, 2018. But, if you can be bothered to go all the way downtown, you can always shop the collection from the Bata online store from May 7th onwards.

One Force Designs

While some may opt for full costumes or graphic tees, others would choose subtler accessories like bracelets, necklaces, and other jewellery. You can always purchase fan-made items or for more one-of-a-kind designs, buy from official-licensed jewellery stores.

One Force Designs has been officially licensed by Disney Star Wars LucasFilm to distribute uniquely designed jewellery that you can't get from any other official stores. They offer a wide range of bracelets, earrings, and necklace categorized by color or the Force (Dark or Light Side).

What separates One Force Designs from the rest is their Galactic Changes series. Think of it like a charm bracelet but for every other jewellery. Using their exclusive interchangeable coins, you can customize the pendants based on your preference. The charms include designs inspired by Kylo Ren, the Death Star, BB-8, and more. Check out below to see how the Galactic Change series works! They are offering 40% off when you buy 2 or more items. Get the promo code here.

Lego Star Wars

You don't have to be physically wearing Star Wars merchandise to celebrate May 4th; you can do so by collecting Star Wars toys as well. In fact, one of the most popular Star Wars merchandise is the Lego Star Wars series. You can easily and fully recreate your favorite scenes or battles with all its characters, starships, and other details with Lego Star Wars.

The collection includes miniature versions of your favorite characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Yoda, Darth Vader, and Chewbacca as well as miscellaneous iconic figures like the Imperial Star Destroyer, Death Star, and the Millennium Falcon (also the largest and the most expensive Lego Star Wars set ever made).

Hot Wheels x Star Wars

If automobiles are more of your cup of tea, you can always check out the Star Wars collection from Hot Wheels. While this collection doesn't focus much on the characters, it does feature all of your favorite vehicles from the franchise. This includes characters' individual vehicles like Boba Fett's, Rey's, and Emperor Palpatine's vehicle as well as the bigger ships like the Millennium Falcon, Heavy Assault Walker, Poe's Ski Speeder, and Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer.

Aside from the vehicles, this collection also includes various playsets for all your cars, jets, and ships to cruise in. However, some people would prefer to keep their Hot Wheels Star Wars in their original packaging and only be displayed instead of played with. While this increases the value for some of the items, what's the use of these Star Wars toys if you can't even play with them?

True fans don't need to wait around until that day to show their love for the epic space opera and you can express your appreciation for Star Wars starting from now. Also, since Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released by the end of May, it gives you an excuse to prolong your May 4th celebrations! Have fun and may the force be with you!
