How does the 2019 Toyota Vios compare with the 2018 and 2017 models?
In November 2018, Toyota unveiled its fourth-generation Vios which comes with a whole new design and new features. The 2019 Vios sports a sharper and more dynamic look compared to its predecessors. It also received some upgrades, which are laid out in detail below. So, how does the all-new Toyota Vios fare against its predecessors from 2018 and 2017? Read on to find out more.
Toyoto Vios Price and Variants
Toyota still keeps the same pricing for their new Vios models. The 2019 Toyota Vios comes in three variants – the core 1.5J retails at RM77,200, the mid-range E at RM81,200, and the premium G at RM87,300. It has two new colors – Red Mica Metallic and Dark Blue Metallic, and retains three colors from its predecessors - Attitude Black, Silver Metallic, and Super White II.
Fuel Economy and Engine
The 2019 Vios 1.5J engine produces 107 PS at 6000 rpm and 140 Nm at 4200 RPM of torque – specifications which you can also find in 2017 and 2018 models. So, Toyota kept the engines unchanged in their latest model. All models provide impressive fuel economy with engines that are suitably made for day-to-day city driving.
Interior
The Toyota Vios 2018 and 2017 models come with fixed benches whereas the Toyota Vios 2019 gets fixed rear seats. In terms of lighting, the Vios 2017 and 2018 base variants feature rear foglamps, LED daytime running lights, and wing mirror turn indicators. The 2019 Vios base model also has those features, except for the wing mirror turn indicators.
Convenient Features
Toyota retains the keyless push button, hill start assist, remote locking/unlocking of the boot, and Tiptronic transmission in the Vios 2019. However, for its base variant, the 2019 Vios does not come with a digital video recorder (DVR), which is integrated into the 2017 and 2018 models.
Nevertheless, the all-new Vios comes with upgrades including 2 additional parking sensors, sharper headlights, daytime running lamps in the bumper, and broader tail lights, among others. On top of that, it is now much safer, as it is packed with 7 Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) bags compared to 2 airbags from the 2018 and 2017 Vios models.
