Shochiku Home Video The Snow White Murder Case (2014) (Blu-ray) (Deluxe Edition) (First Press Limited Edition)(Japan Version)
RM 263.20
One woman discovers the destructive power of the internet and social media in The Snow White Murder Case, based on a novel by Confessions author Minato Kanae. Directed by Nakamura Yoshihiro (Fish Story, Golden Slumbers), the mystery-drama deconstructs a seemingly open-and-shut case involving the murder of a beautiful cosmetics company employee by a "plain-looking" co-worker, played by Inoue Mao. Adopting a Rashomon-style narrative structure, Nakamura and screenwriter Hayashi Tamio (Golden Slumbers) show the devastating effects of internet rumors and how they can play with our perception of the truth. In addition to Inoue, The Snow White Murder Case also stars Ayano Go (Rurouni Kenshin) as a Twitter-obsessed reporter and popular model Nanao (Last Cinderella) as the beautiful murder victim.

A beautiful woman (Nanao) working for a cosmetics company has been brutally murdered, but the police have been secretive about the details of the case. One day, ambitious television news director Akahoshi (Ayano Go) gets a call from a friend who works inside the company and learns about the rivalry between the victim and Shirono (Inoue Mao), a "plain-looking" employee who seems to have plenty of motives to commit murder. Akahoshi's subsequent investigative report creates a huge stir on social media, as netizens quickly identify the secret identity behind the "Miss S" in the report. Despite not having been officially sought out by the police, Shirono has already been persecuted publicly as the killer. What is the truth behind the case? Where is Shirono?

This edition comes with a booklet featuring an essay by Minato Kanae, as well as a bonus DVD containing making of, stage events and trailers.

Shochiku Home Video Quill (Japan Version - English Subtitles)
RM 210.10
This film witnesses the birth of Quill, his growth, and how Quill becomes a guide dog for the blind. How will the adorable Quill deal with his first life and death separation?

Quill is a Labrador Retriever, a breed of dog that has a great tradition of becoming guide dogs for the blind. Quill is distinguished from his brother and sisters with a bird-like birthmark on his body. It did not take long for Quill to be selected for training as a guide dog, and the first "master" Quill is sent to is Mr. Watanabe. Watanabe is a stubborn man, who believes that a walking cane is much more reliable than a guide dog. But after spending time with each other, Watanabe is moved by Quill's selfless love for him. These good times are not to last however, and Quill has to learn the pain of separation for the first time...

Directed by Sai Yoichi, Quill is the film adaptation of the bestselling novel. The story is simple yet extremely moving. It'll surely move you to tears, all you dog-lovers out there!

Fashion photographer and music video director Kiriya Kazuaki's long awaited first film, set in a stunning retro-futuristic world, is a visual and philosophical tour de force.

An updated version of an animated television series from Tatsunoko Pro made in the early 1970s, Casshern is a classic tale of good vs. evil. The film is set in the future with planet Earth divided into two opposing alliances. After a long and bitter war, the Greater Eastern Federation triumphed over Europa to rule the Eurasian continent. However, the victory is a hollow one. The war has left the planet a wasteland, ravaged by chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons, and its inhabitants are weak and susceptible to every pestilence and new disease that appears.

With hope running out for the survival of the human race, a geneticist named Dr. Azuma proposes a neo-cell treatment through which he can rejuvenate the human body and potentially save mankind. The success of his research is critical to him on a personal level as well, as his disease-stricken wife Midori is growing weaker each day.

One day, a freak bolt of lightning sends Azuma's neo-cell cloning experiment haywire, and an army of superhuman androids (Shinzo Ningen) are unleashed on the world. The military attacks and kills most of them, but some survive, taking Midori hostage and employing a robot army to wage war on the humans in an effort to wipe them off the face of the earth. As options run out, Tetsuya, Azuma's son who had been killed in combat, is reborn through his father's neo-cell technology as the hero Casshern. Will he be able to save the world, or is it too late?

This version includes 2 special discs containing the making-of and interviews with the director and cast.

From director Yamada Yoji (The Twilight Samurai) comes The Hidden Blade (a.k.a. Kakushi Ken Oni no Tsume), another loving depiction of the bygone days of samurai heroism. Nagase Masatoshi (Shark Skin Man & Peach Hip Girl, Pistol Opera) stars as a samurai, whose adherence to his code of honor is tested by the forces around him. It is mid-nineteenth century Japan, and the way of the samurai is fading, as Western influences and corruption are slowly taking hold in Japan.

Samurai Katagiri Munezo (Nagase Masatoshi) rescues a woman (Matsu Takako) who's being abused in her married life, but as a silent romance blossoms between them, his corrupt superiors challenge his honor. When the clan orders Katagiri to kill a fellow samurai fallen to corruption, can this man of honor - who has never killed - complete his duty? Like in The Twilight Samurai, Yamada Yoji explores complex themes in his depiction of the simple, yet conflicted life of a man following the strictest moral code. Full of fascinating detail and sublime humanity, The Hidden Blade is a marvelously-realized film that represents the best of what current Japanese cinema has to offer.

Renowned director Yamada Yoji brings his acclaimed samurai trilogy to a beautiful close with Love and Honor (a.k.a. Bushi no Ichibun). Like Twilight Samurai and Hidden Blade, Love and Honor is based on the works of Fujisawa Shuhei, and the story follows a familiar arc, portraying a samurai's struggle for honor in the face of harrowing challenges. While his previous two films were helmed by screen veterans Sanada Hiroyuki and Nagase Masatoshi, for Love and Honor Yamada chose pop icon Kimura Takuya as the film's star. The casting initially drew skepticism as, though Kimura had appeared in many television dramas, he had little film experience. Kimura, however, made the role his own, delivering a career-defining performance. Under Yamada's assured hand, the rich aesthetics and restrained acting give way to an increasingly emotional and intense story that culminates with a gripping sword duel. Winning both at the box office and with critics, Love and Honor just might be the best of the trilogy.

Though he is of low rank with modest means, young samurai Mimura Shinnojo (Kimura Takuya) has a fairly happy and stable life with his loving wife Kayo (Dan Rei). All this comes crashing down, however, when Shinnojo, as the lord's food taster, eats poisoned shellfish and becomes blind. Distressed by his inability to support the household, he turns violent and resentful, and even considers ending his own life to redeem his name. At the urging of unsympathetic relatives, Kayo seeks the assistance of captain Shimada Toya (Bando Mitsugoro), who uses his influence to help Shinnojo retain his income and rank. As the rumors begin to get louder, Shinnojo becomes increasingly troubled that he may be losing his wife and honor to another man...

After a series of period films, 78-year-old legendary director Yamada Yoji returns to a contemporary story for the first time in a decade with About Her Brother, the closing film of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. Stars Yoshinaga Sayuri (Year One in the North) and Tsurube Shofukutei (Dear Doctor) reunite with Yamada after Kabei - Our Mother in this unabashedly old-fashioned melodrama about family love and the sacrifices made in its name.

Ginko (Yoshinaga Sayuri) seems to be living the good life: She's the respectable owner of a neighborhood drug store in Tokyo, and her daughter Kaharu (Aoi Yu) is about to get married to a doctor. However, Koharu's wedding day also brings homes Ginko's younger brother Tetsuro (Tsurube Shofukutei), a failed actor and a hard drinker who shows up causing trouble. Having covered for him all her life, Ginko is ready to disown her burdensome younger brother, but some things are easier said than done.

Lee Eon Hee makes a fantastic directorial debut with this simple, poignant tale of young love. Containing a mother-daughter relationship that is as touching as it is unconventional, this unusually titled film centers on Gang Min Ah (Lim Soo Jung, star of A Tale of Two Sisters), a sickly high school girl who's been in and out of hospitals since she was a young girl. She rooms with her single parent mom (Lee Mi Sook), who encourages her daughter to live life to the fullest. Poor Min Ah is afflicted with a terminal disease and is not long for this world. In reaction to this terrible reality, it seems both mother and daughter have learned to stay focused solely on the present moment, since the future seems so terribly bleak. Still, Min Ah dreams of someday having a boyfriend, but can anyone really match up to her ideal fantasy?

Things take an interesting turn when a photographer named Yeong Jae (Kim Rae Won, star of My Little Bride) takes up residence in the apartment just below theirs. From the get-go, he does his best to make friends with the reclusive Min Ah, but she's not interested in being his pal. Slowly, however, Min Ah begins to come out of her shell, and a friendship blossoms between the two neighbors, a fact that brings much joy to Min Ah's mother and friends. Soon, friendship turns to true love, but with Min Ah's terminal illness looming over their romance, is there any chance for a happy ending? Find out in this heartwarming Korean melodrama sure to bring audiences to tears!

Directed by Shimoyama Ten, the dazzling 2005 film Shinobi centers on the drama resulting from the war between two ninja clans in the early part of the Tokugawa era. In the film, Nakama Yukie portrays Oboro, the granddaughter of Ogen (Lily), the respected Iga clan matriarch, while Odagiri Jo plays Gennosuke, the son of Danjo Koga (Minoru Terada), the powerful Koga clan leader. While living deep within the mountains, the two ninja clans have honed their skills to superhuman levels. Unfortunately, the clans do not get along and are forbidden by imperial decree from sharing their techniques with each other. Viewing the two ninja clans as a threat to his scheme for total domination, the nefarious Nankobo Tenkai (Ishibashi Renji) plots to intensify the rivalry between the two clans. Nakobo creates a contest in which the clans are forced to choose five of their best warriors to participate. The battle, however, isn't just a friendly contest, it's a duel to the death!

Early in the film, Oboro and Gennosuke meet and fall in love unaware of their clan ties, so when they are both selected to compete they are surprised to discover the truth about one another's identities. Gennosuke initially refuses to participate, but is forced to make an appearance when his compatriots start dropping like flies. The combatants in this contest are not your run-of-the-mill ninja warriors, each has powers beyond that of mortal men. There's the face-changing Saemon Kisaragi (Kinoshita Hoka), the limb-extending Yashamaru (Sakaguchi Taku), the poisonous Kagero (Kurotani Tomoka), and the all-seeing Tenzan Yakushi (Shiina Kippei) just to name a few! Thanks to a great romance plot, breathtaking special effects, and spectacular action choreography, Shinobi offers a one-of-a-kind ninja film that must be seen to be believed!

The Igaban First Press Limited Edition of Shinobi comes with five Igaban character cards, plus the Igaban bonus disc, containing the following special features:

From director Kohno Keita comes the heartwarmingly cute tale, Kogitsune Helen! Also popularly known by its alternative English title Helen the Baby Fox, this moving 2006 motion picture revolves around the life of a young, friendless boy who comes to learn some important lessons about life when he adopts an abandoned, physically disabled animal. This breathtaking film takes place in early spring in northern Japan, as seven-year-old Taichi (played by Fukusawa Arashi) finds himself forced to leave his urban home and relocate to a veterinarian's (Osawa Takao) rural Hokkaido household when his camerawoman mother ventures off on a whirlwind photo shoot assignment.

Having just recently arrived from the big city, Taichi soon discovers an adorable fox pup lying near the side of the road. But cute as it may be, the animal is in sad shape, as it is not only deaf and blind, but mute as well. Although a majority of the adults who surround Taichi voice their objections, he resolutely chooses to take care of the pitiful creature and name it "Helen Keller". Feeling a bit neglected himself in his new environment, Taichi soon finds that his newfound guardian role will end up teaching him a great deal about the responsibilities that parents face and open his eyes to the hardships involved in his own mother's stuggle to make ends meet for the both of them. Based on a true story about Taketazu Minoru, who is involved in wildlife conservation in Hokkaido, this hugely charming tale of a boy and his fox is sure to touch the heart of even the most jaded filmgoer!

Back in 2010, Nakamura Yoshihiro directed A Boy and His Samurai, a comedy about a samurai who time travels to the present day. The eclectic filmmaker best known for mysteries likes The Inerasable and The Snow White Murder Case goes full samurai comedy with The Magnificent Nine. Based on a novel by Isoda Michifumi, the ensemble period comedy rounds up both fresh faces and Nakamura's past leads to form his most star-studded cast yet that includes Abe Sadao, Eita, Tsumabuki Satoshi, Takeuchi Yuko, Matsuda Ryuhei, Yamazaki Tsutomu, Yuda Chibai and even Olympic gold medal figure skater Hanyu Yuzuru in his acting debut.

Juzaburo (Abe Sadao) lives in an impoverished rural town where most of the residents struggle to get by due to the heavy taxes levied by the local government. Tea grower Tokuheiji (Eita), who has recently moved back to town, suggests loaning a large sum to the government and then using the interest to help the townspeople. Though Tokuheiji made the remark in jest, Juzaburo takes the idea to heart and puts the plan into action by pooling resources with other more well-off residents to raise money for the anonymous loan. As word spreads, more people jump onto the scheme. However, heads will most certainly roll should their Lord learns the truth.

Considered one of the great masterpieces of early Japanese cinema, Mizoguchi Kenji's 1939 black-and-white classic The Story of the Last Chrysanthemum revolves around the trials and tribulations of a struggling kabuki actor and his wife in the late 19th century. Adopted into a famous kabuki family, Onoe Kikunosuke (Hanayagi Shotaro) has been training to take up his father's mantle, but his acting skills are not acknowledged by the rest of the troupe. Much to his father's disapproval, Kikunosuke develops a close relationship with Otoku (Mori Kakuko), his nephew's wet nurse, and eventually leaves Tokyo and starts a new life in Osaka with Otoku. As time passes, however, the couple's relationship worsens under the strain of poverty, and Otoku decides to separate from Kikunosuke so that he can reconcile with his father and find his place onstage again.

From 1969 to 1995, Yamada Yoji directed an iconic series of films titled Otoko wa Tsurai yo (a.k.a. It's Tough Being a Man) about a traveling salesman and his never-ending difficulties with love. The director shows that relationships don't get any easier with time in his 2016 film What a Wonderful Family! (a.k.a. Kazoku wa Tsurai yo). Yamada reunites the cast of Tokyo Family including Hashizume Isao, Yoshiyuki Kazuko, Tsumabuki Satoshi, Aoi Yu, Nishimura Masahiko, Natsukawa Yui, Hayashiya Shozo and Nakajima Tomoko for an astute, good-humored look into the dynamics of the modern family.

Married for 50 years, Shuzo (Hashizume Isao) and Tomiko (Yoshiyuki Kazuko) live with their sons Konosuke (Nishimura Masahiko) and Shota (Tsumabuki Satoshi) as well as their daughter-in-law (Natsukawa Yui) and their grandchildren. With so many people under one roof, the house is constantly bustling with bicker and banter. On Tomiko's latest birthday, which Shuzo has as usual forgotten, she calmly asks him for a present: divorce.

After the success of his "Samurai Trilogy", renowned director Yamada Yoji draws acclaim and accolades once more with the wartime drama Kabei - Our Mother. Based on Nogami Teruyo's memoirs, Kabei follows a normal, loving family as their innocent, bustling lives are forever transformed by the war. Veteran actress Yoshinaga Sayuri is the picture of dignity and grace as a strong and elegant woman who holds her family together in her husband's absence, while acclaimed actor Asano Tadanobu disappears into the role of an awkward, affable writer who becomes the unlikely hero for a struggling family. Also co-starring Dan Rei from Love and Honor, Kabei is a triumph in humanistic storytelling, breaking hearts with its realistic characters, sensitive depictions, and precious moments of laughter and tears.

Nogami Kayo (Yoshinaga Sayuri) and her husband Shigeru (Bando Mitsugoro), affectionately called "Kabei" and "Tobei" by their daughters, form a small and happy family in 1940s Japan. When Shigeru is imprisoned for political reasons, however, Kayo is left to carry the family as war breaks out in the Pacific. In these dark times, Shigeru's frazzled, kindhearted student Yamasaki Toru (Asano Tadanobu) shows up at the doorstep to offer his help. Devoting his time and heart to supporting the family and fighting for Shigeru's release, Yamasaki develops a strong bond with Kayo, her daughters, and her sister-in-law Hisako (Dan Rei). Kayo stands as a pillar of silent strength through the years of war and strife, taking the trials that come one by one, but not even she can anticipate where her heart lies and fate leads.

Takita Yojiro's excellent 2003 samurai epic takes place in Meiji-era Japan, when the few remaining samurai were forced to choose sides and fight for either the Emperor or the Tokugawa Shogunate (a time period familiar to American audiences from The Last Samurai, but explored with more complexity and nuance here). Nakai Kiichi stars as Yoshimura Kanichiro, a principled Bushido warrior whose difficult decisions and complicated path are skillfully revealed through flashback.
