The refrigerator is an electrical home appliance that has become a necessity in every home. Almost every household has a refrigerator; your kitchen is never complete without one. Refrigerators help to keep your food fresh by keeping them in low temperatures. The cold temperature inhibits bacteria from breaking down organic matter i.e. your food items and groceries, thus enabling them to last longer.

5 Tips for Trimming Water Heating Costs with Panasonic Water Heaters

On average, water heating makes up for around 13% of a household’s utility bill. This is the second largest portion after air conditioning and heating. With Panasonic insulated water heaters, they heat water efficiently, thus reducing costs. Aside from that, you need to apply the following tips to further save on your water bill.

Use a thermometer to determine the right temperature

If you want to set the water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit which is the recommended energy-saving temperature, then don’t use the thermostat. This is because they often provide inaccurate temperatures. To determine the right temperature of the hot water, use a thermometer and place it near a faucet in the bathroom. Turn the thermostat to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If your water heater doesn’t have a numbered gauge on the thermostat, just set it between the “low” and “medium” marks. Then, wait at least a couple of hours; after that, measure the water temperature. If you still don’t get the right temperature, just adjust the thermostat until you get it right.

Save on your water bill by using less hot water

Apparently, using less water when taking a shower can reduce the cost of your water bill. To accomplish this, attach low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators to decrease the hot water consumption by up to 60%. This will save you money on your water bill.

Drain the sediment in the tank

Tank water heaters tend to build up sediment that lowers the efficiency, making saving energy difficult. But you can keep it running efficiently by draining the tank. To drain the sediment out of the tank, first, turn off the water heater and turn the setting on the burner to “pilot”. Next, connect any hose, say, a garden hose to the outlet at the base of the tank. Then, lift the pressure-relief valve on the tank and switch on the spigot. A mixture of water and sediment should begin to flow on the other end of the hose that is pointed at your floor drain. Doing this procedure once or twice a year will surely improve the efficiency of your tank water heater.

Fit insulating tubes right around hot water pipes

Fitting foam tubes around hot water pipes could take effort but they can help make the water warmer by 2 to 4 degrees. This means you won’t have to wait long enough for it to warm up, therefore cutting energy cost, water consumption, and money. In addition, aside from foam tubes, you can use self-sealing sleeves that you can slip over pipes with ease.

Wrap your tank water heater with an insulating blanket

If your tank water heater is old and is placed in a cool space, then you need to cover it with an insulating blanket. This is not expensive and can help cut energy costs. If you plan to buy a tank water heater, look for one that comes with an R-value of 24 on its label, meaning that it is insulated. So, if you don’t want to spend more on insulating blankets and pipe sleeves, then choose any tank water heaters with an R-value of at least 24.
