Mega Star Wait 'Til You're Older (Hong Kong Version) at 6.99 USD from YesAsia
Mega Star Wait 'Til You're Older (Hong Kong Version)
RM 30.90
Andy Lau and Karen Mok star in Wait 'Til You're Older, a funny, heart-felt and sentimental story of one boy's exploration of adult life.

Kwong is a young boy coping with a difficult family life. His mother commit suicide when she discovered that her husband, Man (Felix Wong) was having an affair. Since her death Man has married his mistress, Min (Mok), whom Kwong understandably hates. He wishes that he could become an adult so he wouldn't have to do what she says anymore. And as luck would have it, Kwong has a run-in with a strange old man in the park, and accidentally ingests a magical growth formula that causes him to begin aging very rapidly.

As an adult, Kwong (played now by Andy Lau) gets to do anything he wants, like stay out late, get drunk or even flirt with his sexy teacher, Miss Lee (Cherrie Ying). But he doesn't stop growing and within a couple of days Kwong has become an old man. The film contemplates the difficulties of family life, of raising children, of growing up, and facing death, which, anchored by Lau's strong central performance, makes for a touching and entertaining experience.

Mega Star Din Tao: Leader of the Parade (2012) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) at 8.49 USD from YesAsia
Mega Star Din Tao: Leader of the Parade (2012) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
RM 37.60
Din Tao: Leader of the Parade is the latest success story in the wave of hit local productions that have contributed to the revival of Taiwan cinema. Like Night Market Hero the year before, the film embraces Taiwan's indigenous folk culture, and reaped huge box-office returns during its Chinese New Year run. Skillfully dramatizing the inspiring true story of the Chio-Tian Folk Drums & Arts Troupe, which is famous for reforming young punks by training them in the traditional art of parade-leading drums and dances, Golden Bell Award-winning director Fung Kai (Green Forest, My Home) hit a home run on his first silver-screen outing.

New-generation pop idols Alan Kuo and Alien Huang topline the hot-blooded comedy blockbuster with the support of One Million Star Season 3 finalist Crystal Lin, Night Market Hero actress Esther Liu, and veterans Chen Po Cheng, Liao Chun, and Ko Shu Chin. Born in a family of "din tao" (parade leaders) performance troupe in Taichung, rebellious rocker wannabe A-tai (Alan Kuo) has no intention of taking on the family mantle, and that creates tension between him and father A-da (Chen Po Cheng). One thing leads to another, and A-tai becomes the new leader of the troupe. Vowing to revamp the din tao culture despite the doubt of his family, A-tai takes his underdog crew of school dropouts and social misfits on a tough training tour around the country!

Mega Star Set Off (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
RM 30.90
Set Off, directed by debutant Liu Jiang, is the first film completed under China Film Group's young filmmaker funding project. Garnering great word of mouth when it was released theatrically, this low-budget comedy is highly acclaimed for its smart script and great casting, and critics even compare it to 2006's Crazy Stone, another Mainland sleeper hit. Set Off is about Lao Cui (played by comedy star Fan Wei), a good-for-nothing but kind-hearted man running a Chinese restaurant in Cyprus. He comes home to Beijing only to find his wife cheated on him, pregnant with his best friend's baby. Devastated, Cui's misfortune is further compounded by the news that his business partner is going to sell his restaurant. Before he flies back to Cyprus, Cui bumps into a sassy girl named Xiao Xia (played by the multi-talented Ju Wenpei, who is also the film's composer), and his real nightmare has only just begun...

Hong Kong stage artist, film actor, and popular comedian Jim Chim is here to "Cheer U Up" with his latest show! In July 2009, he created the sold-out stage show "18 Poor Guys of Shaolin", making fun of life in the modern society by way of ancient Chinese kung fu. The audience embraced his unique brand of physical performance, which included elements of stand-up comedy and musical; but ultimately the purpose of Jim Chim's stand-up show is to make people happy and offer them a dose of positive energy. The show features the supporting performance of indie pop group Juicyning.

Mega Star The Flu (2013) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
RM 39.80
Musa The Warrior director Kim Sung Su returns to filmmaking for the first time in a decade with The Flu. The big-budget disaster thriller shows us what happens when a South Korean city becomes ground zero for a devastating avian flu outbreak. Soo Ae (Athena, Goddess of War) stars as a virologist who must race against time to find a cure with the help of a heroic rescue worker, played by Jang Hyuk (Iris 2). Kim doesn't shy away from the chaos and the fear surrounding the situation, making The Flu an unsettling film about a very real situation that any of us can encounter at any time.

A group of illegal immigrants travel from Hong Kong to South Korea in a container. However, when the container arrives, the Korean smugglers discover that all of them are dead except for one, a carrier of a deadly strain of avian flu. The survivor escapes, spreading the flu throughout the city in hours. Soon, thousands are infected and dying within 36 hours. To contain the virus, the government quarantines the entire suburb. Among those trapped in the city are rescue worker Ji Koo (Jang Hyuk) and virologist Dr. Kim In Hae (Soo Ae), who met just before the outbreak. When Dr. Kim suspects her daughter of contracting the virus, she works with Ji Koo to find a cure.

Mega Star Perhaps Love (Hong Kong Version) at 8.99 USD from YesAsia
Mega Star Perhaps Love (Hong Kong Version)
RM 39.80
Peter Chan Ho-sun finally returns with Perhaps Love, the closing film for the Venice Film Festival 2005 and a nominee for Oscar Best Foreign Language Film. The film features a star-studded cast, including top Mainland actress Zhou Xun, Hong Kong super singer Jacky Cheung, Takeshi Kaneshiro who has been on the rise in Japan, and also Korean actor Ji Jin Hee who is best-known for his role in Dae Jang Geum. Peter Pau, after his Oscar winning cinematography for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, serves as the cinematographer for Perhaps Love, another potential Oscar winning film. The crew also includes top musician Peter Kam for film scores and famous art director Yee Chung-man for the production design.

In this splendid movie musical, Takeshi Kaneshiro stars as Lin Jiantung, a film-student-turned-actor who first encountered Sun Na, played by Zhou Xun, 10 years ago at film school. Sun Na now becomes famous director Nie Wen's (Jacky Cheung) girlfriend, apparently in exchange for a better career. She keeps forgetting her past, while Lin Jiantung indulges himself in remembering his romance with her ten years ago. Now all three of them has to work together in a musical, the plot of which is amazingly similar to their own experiences!

Some say Peter Chan offers a Chinese version of the famous musical movie Chicago. Whether this claim holds true or not, in Perhaps Love Peter Chan has explored an art form which very few Hong Kong or even Chinese film directors dare try. Yet, beneath all the enchanting singing and spectacular dancing scenes indeed lies the theme of romance, which seems a recurring motif in all Peter Chan films from Comrades, Almost a Love Story to Perhaps Love.

Mega Star City of Life and Death (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) at 6.99 USD from YesAsia
Mega Star City of Life and Death (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
RM 30.90
Nanjing, 1937.

The third film from award-winning Sixth Generation director Lu Chuan (Kekexili: Mountain Patrol), City of Life and Death is a devastating account of the massacre that occurred during the Sino-Japanese War when Japanese troops took the city of Nanjing in December 1937, a tragedy remembered as the Rape of Nanking. Shot completely in black and white, this powerful war drama unflinchingly captures the shocking violence and brutality of the Nanjing massacre, from the mass executions of POWs to the raping and slaughtering of civilians, while providing a deeply human portrait of both the victims and the perpetrators.

Rendered in many shades of gray, City of Life and Death touches on the different people whose lives are destroyed by the war: the Chinese soldiers who gave their lives, the foreign missionaries who sheltered refugees, the comfort women, the Chinese civilians, and the Japanese soldiers. In a surprising move for a Mainland Chinese film about the Rape of Nanking, City of Life and Death is told primarily from the perspective of a Japanese soldier, played by Nakaizumi Hideo (United Red Army), who witnesses, commits, and abhors the atrocities of his army. The film's large ensemble cast includes Liu Ye (Curse of the Golden Flower) as a fearless Chinese soldier; Gao Yuanyuan (Love in the City) as a selfless missionary teacher; John Paisley as John Rabe, a German businessman who helped establish the Nanjing Safety Zone and save thousands of civilians; and Fan Wei (Gimme Kudos) as Rabe's secretary, who collaborates with the Japanese to try to save his family. By choosing to humanize rather than demonize, Lu Chuan offers an all the more devastating memory of the Nanjing massacre, and the people who lived and died in the City of Life and Death.

Mega Star Women Prison
RM 30.90
The women-in-prison genre gets another standout Hong Kong entry with the aptly-titled Women Prison! Pat Ha stars as Kelly, who is sent to a women's correctional facility after taking out a loan shark on her wedding day. Thrown into unfamiliar, brutal environs, Kelly finds little to comfort her, as a gang war is brewing, and the wardens and guards are steeped in corruption. But Kelly does find support and even friendship with some of the inmates, including the motherly Kam (Petrina Fung), and tough-as-nails gang leader Lynn (popular comedienne Carol "DoDo" Cheng in an against-type performance). Together, the women find camaraderie and some measure of hope as they brave the daily trials of their prison life.,p>Told in gritty, harrowing, and compelling style by director David Lam, Women Prison is an underrated member of its genre, and can be favorably compared to male-oriented prison films like Ringo Lam's popular Prison on Fire series. With potent melodrama, adrenaline-pumping tension, and effective performances from a fine cast (including Simon Yam, Maria Cordero, and Charine Chan), Women Prison proves to be a powerful and compelling Hong Kong action-drama.

Mega Star Hooked On You (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
RM 30.90
2007 marks the tenth anniversary of the 1997 Hong Kong Handover, when the territory was returned to Mainland Chinese rule. Dubbed a "Handover film" along with Barbara Wong's Wonder Women and Samson Chiu's Mr. Cinema, Law Wing Cheong's Hooked On You gently revisits those momentous ten years through the lives of normal everyday Hong Kongers. With the city as a loving backdrop, this Johnnie To-produced film follows the evolving experiences and relationships of two fishmongers played by Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung, who previously starred in Law's 2 Become 1. The memorable ups and downs of the decade, from the financial crisis and SARS to bakery runs and urban redevelopment, weave unassumingly into the narrative, as the protagonists and the city grow and change together. Collaborating for the third time after Feel 100% II and Frugal Game, Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung share a natural chemistry and deliver remarkably restrained and realistic performances. Banking simply and effectively on good acting, good story, and good direction, Hooked On You subtly captures the Hong Kong experience with earnest emotions, sincere storytelling, and down-to-earth nostalgia.

In the summer of 1997, 27-year-old Miu (Miriam Yeung) begins working as a fishmonger at Fortune Market to pay off the debts of her irresponsible father (Stanley Fung). She immediately invites trouble from brusque fishmonger Fishman (Eason Chan), who is none too happy about the competition, but the two eventually settle into a tentative friendship. The hardworking Miu, like most Hong Kong women approaching the Big Three-O, is hoping to get married soon, and most definitely not to a market vendor. As the years pass, Miu and Fishman experience trials big and small together, growing closer over time. Fishman sees Miu and Fortune Market as his present and future, but she wants more from life.

The title of the film 2 Become 1 already spells out the change that our protagonist's body has to go through - what can possibly be more depressing to a metropolitan lady than losing her left breast? Advertising executive Bingo Leung, played by Hong Kong singer and rising comedy actress Miriam Leung (Love Undercover, Drink, Drank, Drunk), discovers that she has breast cancer and must have her left breast removed. She has a hard time facing this truth, plus dealing with psychologist V (Richie Jen) who keeps urging her to undergo something she does not want to, namely, mastectomy. Director Law Wing Cheong received nomination twice at the Hong Kong Film Awards for editing Johnnie To's PTU and Running On Karma. In the new Johnnie To production 2 Become 1, Law teams up with screenplay writer Ivy Ho, famous for telling stories from the female perspective, to create a refreshing and touching piece of work.

The film is loosely based on Hong Kong writer Xixi's literary work titled Mourning for the Breast, an anthology of autobiographical short essays about her experience in undergoing breast cancer treatment. Quite different from the original, 2 Become 1 has inserted a lot of amusing elements to dilute the gloominess that is expected of a piece of work about cancer, making comedian Miriam Yeung perfect for the role. At the same time the movie retains reflections on death and disease that is at the core of Xixi's writings, and those episodes actually turn out to become the most engaging moments in the film. Richie Jen brings to live a witty psychologist, while Jo Kuk and Wu Yujun fit into their roles as Bingo's screechy friends well. Co-starring new singer Justin Lo, Election's Gordon Lam, 2 Become 1 is unique in terms of its thematic concern and angle of narration among all Hong Kong films in the recent years.

Director Teddy Chan (Downtown Torpedoes) delivers both excitement and drama in the acclaimed action thriller Purple Storm! Todd (Daniel Wu) is a violent Khmer Rouge terrorist who works for his adopted father Soong (Kam Kwok Leung), a notorious international criminal with a terrifying plan. Soong has in his possession a lethal poison which, when seeded into rain clouds, will liquefy its victims in a bloody purplish-red mess. But Soong's plans are stalled when Todd is in injured, afflicted with amnesia, and then captured by Hong Kong's anti-terrorist unit. To combat Soong, Head Inspector Ma Li (singer Emil Chau) and psychologist Shirley Kwan (international star Joan Chen) put into motion a brilliant, but risky plan. They decide to release Todd back into the arms of his Khymer Rouge comrades, but reprogrammed with the belief that he's really an undercover cop working for the authorities!

Action director Stephen Tung (Downtown Torpedoes, Heroic Duo) brings dynamic action sequences to Purple Storm, but it's the film's surprisingly accomplished narrative that makes this a standout Hong Kong action thriller! Daniel Wu turns in a believably tortured and physically dynamic performance as Todd, and Josie Ho is compelling as his wife/comrade-in-terrorism. Full of terrific action and gripping tension, Purple Storm easily qualifies as one of the most entertaining thrill rides of late nineties Hong Kong Cinema!

Mega Star Girls Without Tomorrow at 6.99 USD from YesAsia
Mega Star Girls Without Tomorrow
RM 30.90
An all-star cast highlights Girls Without Tomorrow, a harrowing drama about the sordid truths behind the world's oldest profession. Acclaimed actress Maggie Cheung stars as a TV actress who sometimes makes international "house calls" to supplement her income. However, for some prostitutes, the life is far more desperate. Housewife Petrina Fung engages in prostitution to pay for her husband's kidney transplant, and Carrie Ng sells her body to care for her ailing mother. Other prostitutes are forced to sell themselves for abusive boyfriends, or simply because they were denied other, less sordid careers. Director David Lam refuses to provide easy answers to the complex social and emotional issues facing the women, and the result is a film that doesn't put a happy face on prostitution. Unlike Julia Roberts' character in the glamorized Hollywood film Pretty Woman, the girls in Girls Without Tomorrow find little hope or romance in their occupation, and instead find themselves drifting towards a sad, inexorable, but undeniably compelling fate.

Hong Kong's top stage artist and comedian Jim Chim is always quick to turn the latest hot topics in town into hilarious gags for his popular stage shows. Taking aim squarely at the fad of "lang mo" (girly models) that was flooding the city in summer 2009, his latest show Planet of the Lang Mo features himself and some of his disciples in various outrageously funny images, including that of an ice-cream-licking, toothbrush-wielding, scantily-clad lang mo! The 12-act show also tackles the theme of gender, with skits lampooning the ongoing war between "(Hong) Kong guys" and "(Hong) Kong chicks".

Thief Catcher (Maggie Cheung) teams up with a charming rogue (Sean Lau Ching Wan) to find a pure supply to save the city, while Invisible Girl (Michelle Yeoh) is concerned with protecting the President from a possible military coup led by power-hungry Paul Chun. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman (Anita Mui) has gone missing! Will the Heroic Trio reunite in time to save the city from the forces of evil? Co-starring Takeshi Kaneshiro and Damian Lau, Executioners takes the characters from the classic The Heroic Trio and puts them into an exciting and dramatic new adventure! Director Johnny To creates compelling emotions and surprising drama, and action choreographer Ching Siu Tung handles the acrobatic, exhilarating action sequences! For comic book thrills and female action heroes, the double feature of The Heroic Trio and Executioners is hard to beat!

Five youths come of age the hard way in the Taiwanese gangster blockbuster Monga. Beating even Avatar at the local box office in its opening day gross, the youth gang epic takes audiences back to 1980s Taiwan, to a time of rousing fistfights, loud floral shirts, and good old-fashioned brotherhood. Following his award-winning What on Earth Have I Done Wrong, Doze Niu spins his experience as an idol drama director into a big-budget, hot-blooded gangster actioner that's gritty, glossy, and completely entertaining. Television idols Ethan Ruan (Exit No. 6) and Mark Chao (Black & White) lead the cast, with Rhydian Vaughn (Winds of September), former Super Idol contestant Cai Chang Xian, variety show stars Huang Deng Hui and Chen Han Dian, and actress Alice Ke (Miao Miao) rounding out Monga's awry youth. Veteran actor Ma Ju Lung (Cape No. 7) and Doze Niu himself also co-star in the nostalgic gangland drama.

Loner teen Mosquito (Mark Chao) has just moved to Taipei's gang-ridden Monga district, and he gets picked out immediately at school for some roughing up. Dragon (Rhydian Vaughan), the swaggering son of mob boss Geta (Ma Ju Lung), swoops in to save Mosquito and invites him into the "Prince Gang" alongside Monkey (Cai Chang Xian), A-Po (Huang Deng Hui), and Monk (Ethan Ruan), the true brain and brawn of the group. The five friends live it up together amid backalley brawls and brothel excursions, even as they get pulled deeper and deeper into a brewing gang war that threatens to upturn their youth and their brotherhood.

At 3:42am on July 28, 1976, a massive earthquake struck Tangshan, China, devastating the city in merely 23 seconds and resulting in a death toll of more than 240,000. The catastrophe left a gaping wound in the consciousness of the nation, and some 34 years later, China's top director Feng Xiaogang (The Banquet, Assembly) offers catharsis with his latest film Aftershock. Carrying a hefty price tag of RMB200 million, the mega-budget production has raked in an earth-shattering RMB600+ million at the Mainland box office to become the highest grossing local film ever in China, further cementing Feng's status as the No. 1 blockbuster director in Chinese Cinema.

Being the first Chinese film made for the IMAX giant-screen format, the epic production enlisted the services of special effects experts from the US and Korea to depict the terrifying destruction in the stunning opening sequence. But, Aftershock won't settle for being simply a visual spectacle. The film tells a deeply emotional tale centering on a family brutally torn apart by the disaster. Critics have attributed the tremendous power of the film to its touching human drama and the heart-wrenching performances from the cast that includes Xu Fan (Feng's better half), popular actress Zhang Jingchu, Li Chen (Assembly), Lu Yi (Seven Swords), Zhang Guoqiang, and award-winning actor Chen Daoming.

Based on the novel Aftershock by Zhang Ling, the film follows a family who fell victims in the Tangshan Earthquake. The father, Fang Daqiang (Zhang Guoqiang), was crushed dead while trying to rescue his children, Fang Deng and Fang Da, who were trapped in the house. Unable to save both kids, the mother, Li Yuanni (Xu Fan), is forced to sacrifice Fang Deng for her feeble younger brother Fang Da, a decision that proved agonizing for the entire family. It turns out that Fang Deng survived the quake and was adopted by a couple in the aftermath. Thirty-two years later (2008), the grown-up Fang Deng (Zhang Jingchu) would finally cross paths with Fang Da (Li Chen) in Wenchuan, Sichuan...

A beloved classic of Taiwan Cinema, Hou Hsiao Hsien's 1985 feature The Time To Live and the Time to Die is a semi-autobiographical tale of the director's own coming-of-age experiences. As typical of Hou's films, the quiet family saga about growing up in postwar Taiwan is simple, slow, and spare while exuding a plain elegance and devastating honesty. The matter-of-fact portrait of life and death takes the young hero through childhood memories of school, friendship, and puppy love, as well as the acute pain of loss and suffering that come with age.
