A Guide for Using and Buying Mosquito Repellents

Being in Malaysia, you should not be unfamiliar with mosquitos. Mosquitos thrive best in hot and humid weather conditions, making Malaysia a nesting ground for this insect. Thankfully, mosquito repellents are here to prevent us from being on a mosquito’s menu. These repellents contain chemicals that enable us to be unattractive to mosquitoes. However, these chemicals can be harmful to humans as they can cause irritation and allergies to occur.

Types of Mosquito Repellents

Mosquito repellents are available in a variety of forms – sprays, coils, patches, etc. Each of them provides their respective advantages:

Mosquito Sprays

Spray mosquito repellents are amongst the most popular as they are compact enough to be placed in your handbags and can be brought around conveniently, perfect for use while travelling. After a few pumps, the product is on your skin and only needs a good rub to make sure that it is distributed evenly on your skin.

Roll-Ons

Mosquito repellents are also manufactured in the form of a roll-on. These repellents are easy to use and can be brought around conveniently. Moreover, they are less likely to spill if you put them into your luggage carrier or handbag.

Aerosol Sprays

Another form of mosquito repellent that is popular amongst Malaysians are aerosol sprays. These sprays are most effective when used in rooms with moving airflow such as in rooms with the fan on to spread the repellent to throughout the space more effectively. However, you should leave the room once you have completed spraying the room so that you do not inhale the repellent.

Creams and Lotions

Mosquito lotions can also be found in the form of creams and lotions that you can apply on your skin. They are generally more economical compared to sprays because you are able to control the amount of product you apply. Make sure that you wash your hands after application to prevent yourself from accidentally consuming them while handling food.

Plug-In Devices

These tools help to keep mosquitoes at bay by slowly releasing repellents into the air. These plug-in devices are somewhat limited as they need to be plugged to the mains to function.
