Wigs 101: What You Need to Know
Your hair is your crown so it’s imperative that you take care of it thoroughly so it can look flawless. However, under certain circumstances, your hair can often fail you by falling, drying, flaking, and even balding. Wigs can help you build your confidence back up while your real hair and scalp are healing its problems. Below are the different types of wigs that you can choose from along with their ease of application and price tags.
Full Lace Wigs
Full lace wigs are the most expensive kind out of them all, depending on the type of hair used on the wig. The lace is attached and sewn directly on top of the wig cap to give a more natural appearance. With the full lace wigs, you are able to part your wig anywhere you want and style it in an up-do, braids, etc. without looking like you’re wearing a wig. You can also choose the color of the cap and the lace to mimic the color of your scalp.
Lace Front Wigs
This type of wig is similar to the full lace wig with the exception that the lace is only located around the hairline. For lace front wigs, you need to use wig glue to secure the legs to your hairline. It also has clips and combs at the side and on the back to secure the wig tightly. Lace front wigs also allow you to modify your hair parting but it’s limited to the front areas only. It does, however, give a natural appearance just as well as a full lace wig.
Different Types of Hair Used for Wigs
There are two main hair types that manufacturers use for their wigs: synthetic and natural. Synthetic wigs are less expensive but look less natural and they are typically made of nylon or acrylic. With synthetic wigs, you can’t style them on your own as they come with pre-set styles.
On the other hand, natural wigs are made with real hair gathered from humans, horses, wool, or buffalos. Real human hair wigs are of course the most expensive out of the bunch and 100% European hair wigs take the number one spot as the most expensive type.
Another type is the remy hair, referring to unprocessed strands of hair with the cuticles still attached. Also called virgin hair, remy hair has different variations as well like the Indian remy, Malaysian remy, Chinese remy, and Mongolian remy. Each of these types have different quality, thickness, and sheen and the prices for each will vary.
Tools You Need to Put On A Wig
To make sure the wig is free from fly-aways, you need a good brush or comb to untangle the wig and your hair as well. You would also need hair spray to keep the wig in place and wig glue if you’re using lace front wigs. If you want to style your wigs, use heating tools like curlers, hair crimpers, or hair straighteners.
