Kam & Ronson Enterprises Co Ltd The Monkey King 2 (2016) (Blu-ray) (2D + 3D Limited Edition) (Hong Kong Version)
RM 182.60
Released in cinemas during the 2016 Lunar New Year holiday, The Monkey King 2 continues the blockbuster fantasy epic based on the oft-adapted literary classic Journey to the West. Aaron Kwok, who played the Buffalo Demon King in Soi Cheang's 2014 film, dons the monkey suit to play the powerful and mischievous Monkey King Sun Wukong in the sequel, while William Feng (Wolf Totem) joins the series as the monk who leads them on the journey to the west. With a darker story and improved visual effects, The Monkey King 2 is bigger and better, and covers some of the saga's most famous chapters including the encounter with the White Bone Demon, stunningly portrayed by Gong Li.

Five hundred years after raising havoc in heaven, Sun Wukong (Aaron Kwok) is released from his mountain prison by monk Xuanzang (William Feng) who has been tasked by the Goddess of Mercy to retrieve holy sutras from the Western Region. To atone for their sins, Wukong and his fellow disciples, river ogre Sha Wujing (Him Law, Young and Dangerous: Reloaded) and amorous pig demon Zhu Baijie (comedian Xiao Shenyang, The Grandmaster), are to accompany and protect Xuanzang on this long and dangerous pilgrimage. However, many perils await them on the road including the notorious, shape-shifting demoness Lady White (Gong Li) who has set her eyes on Xuanzang's flesh.

This edition comes with seven postcards and special features (making-of, trailer, theme song music video).

Note: 3D television, 3D Blu-ray player and 3D glasses are required to view the 3D version of the film.

Ha Jung Woo (Yellow Sea) and Kong Hyo Jin (Crush and Blush) star in this charming yet biting romantic comedy directed by Jeon Gye Soo (Midnight Ballad for Ghost Theater). Told mainly from the perspective of Ha Jung Woo's struggling novelist, the film reveals what goes on inside the oft-immature male mind through narrative voice-over and amusing noir parodies of his detective novel alter ego and the mysterious women in his life. Rising actress Yoo In Na (Secret Garden) also co-stars as the ex-girlfriend.

Failed writer Jool Wol (Ha Jung Woo) needs romance in his life so he can have inspiration for his novel. At a party in Berlin, he falls head over heels for film distributor Hee Jin (Kong Hyo Jin). From her straight-talking manner to her interest in nude photography, Hee Jin walks to a different beat, and Jool Wol is completely smitten. With Hee Jin as his muse, he's also finally over his writer's block. But the rosy relationship begins to go downhill when Jool Wol realizes Hee Jin isn't as perfect as he imagined.

Kam & Ronson Enterprises Co Ltd Aces Go Places Series (Blu-ray) (Hong Kong Version)

There must be a place reserved for Sam Hui in Hong Kong's collective memory of the 80s. Many people still remember him vividly as King Kong in the Aces Go Places Series, and of course we can't forget his sloppy partner, the famous bald detective Albert (Karl Mak), as well as Albert's wife, policewoman "Hot Tongue" (Sylvia Chang) and their cute little son Baldy, Jr (Cyrus Wong Ka-ming). Now they're all back in the Aces Go Places Series, a collection of the five Aces Go Places films digitally remastered and housed in a handsome collector's box!

All five films in the series were box office hits - Aces Go Places (1982), Aces Go Places II (1983), Aces Go Places III: Our Man From Bond Street (1984), Aces Go Places IV (1986) and Aces Go Places V: The Terracotta Hit (1989). Some were even so popular that they were exported to the west, and called the Mad Mission series! In each episode, King Kong and Albert are given a mission impossible, but the mismatched duo is always able to triumph over the bad guys in the end.

The Aces Go Places series is the Hong Kong version of the James Bond movies, but with more pronounced comedy and more sublime silliness. Each episode combines spectacular action with hilarious performances and funny jokes - and you can't afford to miss Sam Hui's theme song "Best Partners", which was ultra-popular during the eighties and remains so even to this day! Hong Kongers nostalgic for the 80s will undoubtedly enjoy these films, while new viewers should still be able to find plenty of amusing, action-packed fun!

Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, now internationally famed action stars, collaborated to make Heart of Dragon in 1986. Apart from the stunning action that normally appears in their movies, Heart of Dragon also has some touching moments when it comes to depicting the brotherhood between a cop (Jackie Chan) and his mentally challenged brother (Sammo Hung). Sammo Hung received a Best Director nomination and Jackie Chan got a Best Actor nomination for Heart of Dragon at the 5th Hong Kong Film Awards.

Films starring Jackie Chan and Sammo are often hard-boiled action or action comedies. However, Heart of Dragon, with its touching moments especially in the first half of the film, may be regarded as an unprecedented attempt of blending comedy, action, and melodrama. The film Rainman made three years later features a similar plot but without the action part. The movie follows a cop named Tat (Jackie Chan) who has always wanted to work as a sailor but he stays in the police force so as to have more time for his brother (Sammo Hung). Just when Tat prepares to quit his job, his brother gets involved in a robbery and is kidnapped...

Seasoned inmate Mad Dog (Chow Yun Fat) is back for more prison angst and action, as a new head prison guard (Elvis Tsui Kam Kong) is determined to exert his authority over the prison inmates. Mad Dog desires a leave to go see his son, who's stuck in an orphanage, but the politics and intrigue of the prison take priority. The Hong Kong and Mainland prison factions are at odds, and look to be set for an eventual confrontation. Mad Dog simply wants to get out, but he gets stuck between the machinations of Hong Kong inmate Boss Bill (Tommy Wong) and the head Mainlander (Chan Chung Yung). Can he survive the prison's latest bout of political tension before it erupts into an all-out riot? The Phantom of the Opera is a faithful adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's blockbuster stage musical. Although the plot of The Phantom of the Opera is so well-known that it need not be repeated here, the film intelligently make use of cinematic elements to refresh the audience with an old story. The exquisite scenes are just as amazing.

Emmy Rossum glows in her role as the opera genius Christine Daae, and Gerard Butler successfully convey the menace and sensuality as the Phantom through his acting as well as his songs. The most experienced musical theater veteran in the cast, romantic lead Patrick Wilson, sings sweetly in the film which charms Daae and the audience alike. The Phantom of the Opera also features diva Minnie Driver who has her voice dubbed in the film but sings the closing-credit number.

Simon Yam and Tony Leung Ka Fai square off in the cat-and-mouse police thriller Eye in the Sky, produced by Johnnie To's Milkyway Image Films. Yam is Mike, head of the SU (Surveillance Unit), a dedicated unit of cops whose job is to follow, listen, and learn - but they must never engage their quarry. They've just taken on a new member, rookie cop Bo (former Miss Hong Kong Kate Tsui), and she receives a trial by fire when charismatic criminal Shan (Tony Leung Ka Fai) stages a daring daylight robbery. The SU immediately begins searching for Shan, using every resource at their disposal, from camera surveillance to smart card tracking to plain, old-fashioned legwork. But Shan is no ordinary criminal, and seems to be as smart as the cops on his trail. When the game escalates to life and death stakes, Bo becomes the only one who can track down Shan and bring him to justice.

Director Yau Nai Hoi is no stranger to Milkyway Image, having worked on the scripts for many of the company's acclaimed hits, including Election, PTU, Running on Karma, and Needing You. Yau does mentor/producer Johnnie To proud with Eye in the Sky, giving the film a stylish feel as well as an ironic sense of humor that fans of Johnnie To should find familiar. What's interesting about Eye in the Sky is how it takes a subject that doesn't seem exciting - surveillance - and brings it to life through breathless pacing and a fine attention to detail. Co-starring Milkyway Image regulars Maggie Siu, Lam Suet, and Eddie Cheung, Eye in the Sky was featured at the Berlin and Udine Film Festivals, furthering the reputations of both Johnnie To and Milkyway Image as some of the finest creators of genre film working today.

The film directorial debut of Malaysian singer-songwriter Tan Kheng Seong (a.k.a. Ah Niu, Summer Holiday) is quite a coup, considering that he has poured his all into this for the last seven years, breaking his piggybank and mortgaging his house to fund the project. He managed to land almost all the top pop artists of the country in the cast of Ice Kacang Puppy Love. The acclaimed romantic hit boasts a stellar lineup of Malaysian stars, including Ah Niu himself, award-winning Best Actress Angelica Lee, Fish Leong, Gary Chaw, Victor Wong, Yi Jet Qi, Penny Tai, Nicholas Teo, and Eric Moo, some of them making their acting debuts in this film. More impressive is the fact that besides directing and acting, Ah Niu also took on the film scoring duties, and penned the nostalgic story of a pure first love in a simpler time when people didn't communicate through cell phone, email, or MSN.

Known in the west as Return of the Dragon, Bruce Lee's The Way of the Dragon is another classic martial arts film featuring the Dragon at the peak of his powers! Bruce Lee is Tang Lung, a Hong Kong expatriate in Italy who gets the opportunity to use his fists when local thugs begin muscling in on the local Chinese restaurant. It's a simple exchange: the thugs set foot in the restaurant, and Tang Lung cuts loose with a flurry of kicks and punches designed to inflict the maximum amount of damage with the minimum amount of effort. Then, more fighting ensues.

The Way of the Dragon co-stars popular starlet Nora Miao, and is a true tour-de-force for Bruce Lee. Not only did he star in the film, but he also wrote, produced, and directed - and this is in addition to his expected action choreography duties. The results of his labor are a wildly entertaining martial arts film that's sure to make kung-fu fans of all ages grin from ear-to-ear. Most famously, The Way of the Dragon features a dramatic showdown between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in the confines of Rome's ancient Colosseum!

This edition comes with a 107-page movie story book of movie scene illustrations by artist Tsui Shing On.

We leave in order to return. Writers-directors Yan Yan Mak (Butterfly) and Clement Cheng (Gallants) held this value close to them for Merry-Go-Round, a visually lush urban drama about going home and finding your roots. Commissioned by Hong Kong's premier charity organization to commemorate its 140th anniversary, Merry-Go-Round follows three lost souls in an emotional story that spans generations and continents. After extensive research, Mak and Cheng chose to set their story in a "coffin home" owned by the organization, which houses coffins before family members can have them shipped for burials in their hometowns.

Led by Ella Koon (The Shopaholics) taking two roles in a commanding performance, the film's eclectic cast also includes Nora Miao (Way of the Dragon), Teddy Robin (Gallants), Lawrence Chou (Truth or Dare: 6th Floor Rear Flat), and Denise "HOCC" Ho. Cinematographer Jason Kwan (Love in a Puff) brilliantly captures the allure of Hong Kong and the seaside coffin home with gorgeous images that complements the melancholic acoustic score by Hong Kong independent musician Ketchup. Merry-Go-Round was also one of the two closing films at the 2010 Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.

Running from her family, terminal illness patient and drug addict Merry (Ella Koon) goes to Hong Kong from San Francisco to look for her internet friend Allen (Lawrence Chou). After being ignored by Allen, Merry wanders her way to the seaside Tung Wah Coffin Home and gets a job working for Uncle Hill (Teddy Robin), the home's caretaker. Meanwhile, Allen's aunt Eva (Nora Miao), a Chinese medicine shop owner, also makes her way from San Francisco to Hong Kong to ensure that Allen doesn't sell the family's medicine shop in Hong Kong. In her hometown, she begins to remember her love affair decades ago with a businessman's son (Lu Yu Lai).

Blu-ray Edition comes with directors' commentary and The Story behind Merry-Go-Round.

Ning (Leslie Cheung) is a mousy tax collector who spends a night in a supposedly haunted villa. Instead of obviously grotesque creatures, Ning meets an enchanting maiden named Sian (the ethereal Joey Wang). But Sian is a ghost bound to the netherworld, and worse, her master is a soul-sucking tree demon with an extremely long tongue! Ning is slated to become the demon's next meal, but some humanity remaining in Sian compels her to keep him alive. Romance blossoms, and Ning resolves to help Sian. He even enlists the aid of a drunken Taoist ghostbuster (Wu Ma) to save Sian and rout the evil demon. But even if the duo succeeds, everlasting love may be only a fantasy...

A winning combination of dizzying camerawork, gorgeous cinematography, beautiful sets and costumes, energetic action, and clever comedy has made A Chinese Ghost Story a worldwide audience favorite, and easily one of the most essential Hong Kong movies around. Hong Kong director Gary Mak mixes the city's favorite genres: police, sex and comedy all into one brew in his latest work SDU: Sex Duties Unit. Produced by Pang Ho Cheung, the films reminds of Pang's 2003 hit Men Suddenly In Black which takes on four men's extramarital affairs in Hong Kong; this time, the concept is similar but the setting has been changed to the Vegas of Asia, Macau. After failing an elite selection, the four-member "Special" Duties Unit played by Chapman To, Shawn Yue, Chow Hoi Kwong and Derek Tsang switch their focus from fighting crimes to a battle of pleasures.

The Special Duties Unit is the elite paramilitary tactical unit of the Hong Kong Police Force with the goal to counter terrorism and the most notorious and dangerous of criminals. After a disappointing international selection process, four members of the B team, Keung (Chapman To), Fu (Shawn Yue), Ho (Chow Hoi Kwong) and Mic (Derek Tsang), organize a private mission codenamed "Sex War." Hiding their true identities, the team illegally sneaks into Macau to visit the bordellos. Their seamless plan, however, is met with an unexpected anti-vice operation. To avoid charges, the four of them work together to break out of prison, turning their ambitious sex mission into a hilarious emergency escape plan

Jackie Chan completists all need to check out Cannonball Run, the Hong Kong superstar's 1981 shot at crossover Hollywood stardom! A packed cast of Hollywood names, including Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Roger Moore and Farrah Fawcett, play frontmen for the supporting Chan, who does his action-comedy bit as a Japanese car racer out to win the "Cannonball Run", a cross-country car race that's as hilarious and action-packed as it is illegal. Running engineer on Chan's souped-up Subaru is none other than Hong Kong comedy master Michael Hui, who brings his deadpan comedy genius to the table. Jackie Chan is only given one real fight sequence, but what a sequence it is! He gets to beat up a group of Hell's Angels (led by Easy Rider Peter Fonda) in a scene that's vintage Jackie Chan. As for the rest of the film, it's sexy, silly, madcap stuff that ran wild at the American box-office in the early eighties. Still, for fans of Jackie Chan - and probably Burt Reynolds - Cannonball Run still qualifies as a must see.

Liu Ye, Zhang Hanyu and Huang Bo are the eponymous heroes of The Chef, The Actor, The Scoundrel, a wartime comedy-drama from director Guan Hu (Cow). Set during the Sino-Japanese War in a Beijing ravaged by war, famine and plague, the film takes place mostly in an inn with four everyday folks and their two Japanese captives. The entertaining, shape-shifting story of comedy and espionage gradually reveals a labyrinthine battle of wits and masquerade among various parties with divergent motives and secrets.

A desperate Scoundrel (Huang Bo) tries to rob two Japanese travelers, but a Chef (Liu Ye) captures them first and holds them hostage in his Japanese restaurant. The Chef, his mute wife (Liang Jing, Design of Death), the Scoundrel and a rakish opera Actor (Zhang Hanyu) who works at the restaurant argue over what to do with the captives. When they learn the captives are actually scientists who have developed a vaccine for cholera, they agree to steal the vaccine formula and then sell it off for big money. Making the scientists spill their secrets, however, is easier said than done, especially when they also have to hide the captives from the Japanese army and some suspicious detectives. Meanwhile, the Chef, the Actor and the Scoundrel also may not be who they appear to be.

Chinese films rarely get as big as Sorcerer and the White Snake, from actor-turned-producer Yang Zi and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon producer Chui Po Chu. The latest retelling of The Legend of the White Snake, the US$25 million Sorcerer stars Eva Huang (Kung Fu Hustle) as a lovelorn demon and international superstar Jet Li as a Buddhist monk determined to keep natural law in order at any cost. Hong Kong-based writers Tsang Kan Cheong (Shaolin Soccer) and Szeto Cheuk Han (Mr. Vampire), as well as veteran action director Ching Siu Tung (Swordsman) bring together spectacular fantasy action, state-of-the-art special effects, and a stirring tale of forbidden love for the perfect Chinese blockbuster.

In addition to Huang and Li, the stellar all-star cast of Sorcerer also includes Raymond Lam (Jade and the Pearl), Charlene Choi (Twins Effect), Wen Zhang (Ocean Heaven), as well as Vivian Hsu, Miriam Yeung, Chapman To, and Jiang Wu in special cameos. After its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, The Sorcerer and the White Snake was released during the intensely competitive National Day holiday in China and quickly became one of the highest-grossing Chinese films of the year.

Snake demons Bai Suzhen (Eva Huang) and Qingqing (Charlene Choi) live in the forest with other animal demons. One day, Suzhen plays a trick on herbalist Xu Xian (Raymond Lam) and causes him to nearly drown. After saving his life, Suzhen realizes that she has fallen in love with Xu Xian, a fact that will not sit well with stern Buddhist monk Fahai (Jet Li). A righteous sorcerer who strongly believes in observing the law of nature, Fahai spends his days capturing demons who have invaded the human world with his trusty disciple Neng Ren (Wen Zhang). When Fahai discovers that Xu Xian has married Suzhen without knowing her true identity, Fahai is determined to keep the two worlds apart - an action that raises the terrifying wrath of Suzhen.

Before becoming Hong Kong's number one auteur, Johnnie To directed The Eighth Happiness, a raucous Lunar New Year Comedy starring the one-and-only Chow Yun Fat! Chow stars as one of three oddball brothers looking for love...but unfortunately, their out-there personalities only get in the way! Eldest brother Raymond Wong Bak Ming runs a cooking show for women, and ends up tangling with a Chinese opera singer ( Fung Bo Bo) who makes a guest appearance on his show. His youngest brother Jacky Cheung is a shy cartoonist who falls in love with a sweet girl (Fennie Yuen), but to obtain her love, he must surpass a manly rival (Michael Chow), as well as interference from his own two brothers.

But the big story here is Chow Yun Fat, who turns in a surprising comic performance as a renowned player - whose mode of operation is to act gay in order to attract women! One of his targets is a beautiful but insane department store shopgirl played by Cherie Chung, who steals almost all her scenes. But it's not until Chow meets feisty Carol "Dodo" Cheng that the man truly meets his match. The stories and relationships between the three couples intertwine hilariously, leading up to a onstage spoof of Princess Chang Ping, featuring Chow Yun Fat dressed up in drag! A monster hit during its initial release, The Eighth Happiness moves fast and furiously, and features enough off-the-wall performances, hilarious situations, surprising jokes (look out for Chow Yun Fat's cameo as "Mark Gor" from A Better Tomorrow) and sheer comic energy to entertain just about anyone!
