There must be a place reserved for Sam Hui in Hong Kong's collective memory of the 80s. Many people still remember him vividly as King Kong in the Aces Go Places Series, and of course we can't forget his sloppy partner, the famous bald detective Albert (Karl Mak), as well as Albert's wife, policewoman "Hot Tongue" (Sylvia Chang) and their cute little son Baldy, Jr (Cyrus Wong Ka-ming). Now they're all back in the Aces Go Places Series, a collection of the five Aces Go Places films digitally remastered and housed in a handsome collector's box! All five films in the series were box office hits - Aces Go Places (1982), Aces Go Places II (1983), Aces Go Places III: Our Man From Bond Street (1984), Aces Go Places IV (1986) and Aces Go Places V: The Terracotta Hit (1989). Some were even so popular that they were exported to the west, and called the Mad Mission series! In each episode, King Kong and Albert are given a mission impossible, but the mismatched duo is always able to triumph over the bad guys in the end. The Aces Go Places series is the Hong Kong version of the James Bond movies, but with more pronounced comedy and more sublime silliness. Each episode combines spectacular action with hilarious performances and funny jokes - and you can't afford to miss Sam Hui's theme song "Best Partners", which was ultra-popular during the eighties and remains so even to this day! Hong Kongers nostalgic for the 80s will undoubtedly enjoy these films, while new viewers should still be able to find plenty of amusing, action-packed fun!

Released in cinemas during the 2016 Lunar New Year holiday, The Monkey King 2 continues the blockbuster fantasy epic based on the oft-adapted literary classic Journey to the West. Aaron Kwok, who played the Bull Demon King in Soi Cheang's 2014 film, dons the monkey suit to play the powerful and mischievous Monkey King Sun Wukong in the sequel, while William Feng (Wolf Totem) joins the series as the monk who leads them on the journey to the west. With a darker story, improved visual effects and action direction by Sammo Hung, The Monkey King 2 is bigger and better, and covers some of the saga's most famous chapters, including the encounter with the White Bone Demon, stunningly portrayed by Gong Li. Five hundred years after raising havoc in heaven, Sun Wukong (Aaron Kwok) is released from his mountain prison by monk Xuanzang (William Feng) who has been tasked by the Goddess of Mercy to retrieve holy sutras from the Western Region. To atone for their sins, Wukong and his fellow disciples, river ogre Sha Wujing (Him Law, Young and Dangerous: Reloaded) and amorous pig demon Zhu Baijie (comedian Xiao Shenyang, The Grandmaster), are to accompany and protect Xuanzang on this long and dangerous pilgrimage. However, many perils await them on the road including the notorious, shape-shifting demoness Lady White (Gong Li) who has set her eyes on Xuanzang's flesh. Doomsday is upon Japan (again) in the thrilling all-star blockbuster 20th Century Boys based on Urasawa Naoki's acclaimed manga. Too big for just one film, 20th Century Boys is being released in three installments over one year's time. The first chapter lays the roots for the visionary trilogy's ambitious tale about a group of friends who emerge as unlikely heroes in the battle against an apocalyptic evil they had unwittingly foretold as children. More than just a good vs. evil doomsday saga, 20th Century Boys makes for a positively epic exercise in filmmaking and storytelling that spans multiple generations and genres, and bites into conspiracy theory, pop culture nostalgia, and spectacular special effects. Helmed by hit-making director Tsutsumi Yukihiko (Memories of Tomorrow), 20th Century Boys is certainly one of the greatest undertakings Japan Cinema has ever seen, with its six billion yen budget and staggeringly long cast list that runs 300 deep. Karasawa Toshiaki (Casshern) leads the ensemble cast that includes Tokiwa Takako (Mamiya Kyodai), Toyokawa Etsushi (The Sinking of Japan), Kagawa Teruyuki (Sukiyaki Western - Django), and Sasaki Kuranosuke (After School). Kenji (Karasawa Toshiaki) used to be a wannabe rocker but, now in his thirties, he's back in his hometown running a convenience store and taking care of his baby niece. All seems quiet and uneventful in Kenji's life, save for the worried whispers about the rise of a cult led by a masked man who calls himself "Friend". The cult's logo seems eerily familiar, as do the news of mysterious deaths and terrorist acts around the world. Back in the summer of 1969, Kenji and his buddies sketched for fun a Book of Prophecy that predicted the world's end. Twenty-eight years later, the scenarios laid out in the Book of Prophecy are coming true one by one, and all fingers point to "Friend". As friends and foes of the past reappear for mankind's last stand, can Kenji fulfill his own prophecy and save the world?

Written and produced by Wong Jing, breezy gangster actioner Bullet & Brain is the kind of entertaining genre hodgepodge that only Hong Kong can do so well. At times serious, at times silly, this fast-paced film is anchored with charismatic performances from Best Actor trio Eric Tsang, Anthony Wong, and Francis Ng. Wong and Ng, in particular, get to strut their stuff as the opaquely cool titular outlaws, Bullet and Brain. The veterans lead the way for their younger co-stars - Alex Fong (Love is Not All Around) and newcomer actresses Tiffany Tang, Liu Yang, and Liu Yuan Yuan - who help bring some youthful energy to the proceedings. Helmed by cinematographer-turned-director Keung Kwok Man, Bullet & Brain rolls action, drama, comedy, and romance together into a tight, unpredictable, and enjoyable roller coaster of a movie. Triad boss Principal meets an untimely demise when his protege Winston (Andrew Wu) betrays him. Before his death, he left his Swiss bank account password to his granddaughter Rain (Tiffany Tang), who now becomes Winston's next target. Winston needs the money to cut a deal with another mob boss (Eric Tsang), and he's willing to use any means to get it. Rookie cop Fei (Alex Fong) is assigned to protect Rain, but he's more bumbling than brave and both are soon in deep waters with Winston's gang on the hunt. Luckily, the Principal also left Rain a torn bill that if sent out would bring the aid of his old friends, legendary criminals Bullet (Francis Ng) and Brain (Anthony Wong). The sharp-minded, sharp-shooting duo haven't been seen in years, but they're back with guns a-blazing to save Rain. The only problem: they vowed years ago to never kill or lie again.

Hong Kong director Johnnie To pays tribute to the films of Kurosawa Akira with Throw Down, an uplifting comedy-drama about how to make lemonade when life keeps giving lemons. Louis Koo, Aaron Kwok, and Cherrie Ying star as three troubled souls who find hope in their respective lives when they find each other. Taking place in a surreal alternate reality where all conflicts can be solved with a good judo match, Throw Down is about the importance of finding joy and honor in doing what you love. To, who still calls Throw Down his favorite film in his filmography, uses every single directing trick up his sleeves to create exhilarating set pieces that prove he's one of Hong Kong cinema's greatest stylists. In addition to Milkyway regulars Lo Hoi Pang and Eddie Cheung, Throw Down also co-stars Grasshopper's Calvin Choi, Tony Leung Ka Fai, and a cameo by Jordan Chan. Szeto (Louis Koo) is a failing bar manager who spends his mundane days wandering around in a drunken state. Mona (Cherrie Ying) is an aspiring pop singer who has run out on her unfair record deal. Tony (Aaron Kwok) is a drifter who spends his days challenging people into judo matches to prove that he's the best. Eventually, Tony and Mona become regulars at Szeto's bar for their own motivations - Mona wants a job as a bar singer, and Tony wants to challenge Szeto, a former judo champion, to a match. Deep in debt and hiding a secret of his own, Szeto refuses to climb out of his shell. However, the encouragement from his two new friends and a powerful challenger (Tony Leung Ka Fai) will help him overcome his personal demons.

Action-comedy superstar Jackie Chan is in fine comic form in Dragon Lord an early eighties showcase for the budding star that was directed by Chan himself! Jackie Chan is Lung, a playful and mischievous youth who spends his days hanging around with his pal Chin (Mars), foolishly pursuing women, and engaging in sports instead of going to school like he should be doing. But Lung and Chin are drawn into a devious plot to smuggle Chinese treasures to foreign lands, leading to numerous chases, escapes, and finally a barn brawl that's choreographed in vintage Jackie Chan style! A young and delightfully spry Jackie Chan makes Dragon Lord an early gem in the superstar's legendary career. Some of Chan's most impressive stuntwork is featured here, along with the beginnings of his trademark action-comedy style. But there are martial arts too, and also the winning Jackie Chan comic charm, which was evident even during the early eighties. Dragon Lord isn't just an entertaining action-comedy, but also an essential film in Jackie Chan's already packed library of classics!

Bittersweet revenge is the name of the game in The Fearless Hyena. The Fearless Hyena marks Chan's directorial debut, who also stars as the young lay-about village boy Lung, who seeks unerring vengeance after his master is brutally murdered. A vicious general (Yam Sai Kun) has been roaming the country, systematically wiping out his grandfather's clan, and when he too is executed, Lung is finally dragged out of lethargy and sets out in hot pursuit of the villainous general. What could so easily have turned into yet another formulaic revenge piece emerges as an unmissable piece of Hong Kong action comedy, thanks in large part to the playful performances and expertly handled fight choreography. Lung's ineptitude forces him to back into training before he can exact his revenge, prompting many highly amusing, as well as skillfully played out training sequences.

One of the most popular hits in Johnnie To's extraordinary filmography, Running Out of Time (1999) undoubtedly set the benchmark in Hong Kong crime capers. It was followed two years later by an even more slickly produced sequel co-directed by To and his disciple Law Wing Cheong, who would go on to become a brilliant director in his own right. Lau Ching Wan reprises his role as a persistent policeman to face off against another righteous robber, this time played by Ekin Cheng. Co-starring Kelly Lin, Hui Siu Hung, Lam Suet, and Ruby Wong, the tight-paced action thriller sequel won Best Film Editing and Best Action Choreography at the 39th Golden Horse Awards. In Running Out of Time 2, police senior inspector Ho Sheung Sang (Lau Ching Wan) is challenged to a game of cat-and-mouse by a mysterious thief (Ekin Cheng), who has hatched an elaborate plan to extort a king's ransom out of insurance company executive Teresa (Kelly Lin). The elusive thief always manages to stay one step ahead thanks to his bottomless bag of magic tricks, and in order to catch him, Ho must figure out his next move - and the motive behind his game.

Z Storm director David Lam and leading man Louis Koo return for the sequel S Storm, an exciting crime thriller again centered around the workings of the ICAC, Hong Kong's corruption watchdog law enforcement agency. Corruption within another quintessential Hong Kong institution, the city's official horse racing and betting operator Jockey Club, sets off a long and sinister trail of crime, conspiracy and collusion that runs far deeper than meets the eye. Adding to the local appeal is a cast filled with former TVB stars including Julian Cheung, Bowie Lam, Ada Choi and Shek Sau, as well as Lo Hoi Pang, Dada Chen and Taiwan actor Vic Chou. ICAC agent Luk (Louis Koo) is investigating the case of a Jockey Club trader suspected of accepting bribes and fixing sports betting odds. The suspect, however, gets murdered in broad daylight by a hitman (Vic Chou), and Luk is the only witness. Detective Lau (Julian Cheung) is put in charge of the murder case, but in a classic example of ICAC and police deadlock, he is unable to get much information out of Luk. The two agencies delve into the victim's connection with illegal bookmaking operations and discover that there is a mysterious and ruthless big boss pulling the strings.

On the verge of becoming a martial arts screen star, Billy Lo is approached by an evil group called The Syndicate to join their illicit endeavors. What does Billy do? He cuts loose with a series of high-pitched wails and kung-fu kicks as only Bruce Lee can deliver! Bruce Lee's final film, Game of Death was partially shot before Lee's tragic death, but completed afterwards with a variety of film techniques, including stock footage and the use of a stand-in (Korean actor Kim Tai Jung) to double for the legendary martial artist. But regardless of the hodgepodge filmmaking, Game of Death qualifies as essential cinema for fans of Bruce Lee thanks to numerous fight sequences, and the famous finale featuring Lee in a series of battles, including one against NBA Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!

As essential a Hong Kong film as you could ever find, A Better Tomorrow is a milestone of Hong Kong Cinema, and the first true John Woo film from legendary director John Woo. Ho (Ti Lung) and Mark (Chow Yun Fat) are triad brothers at the top of their game, but each suffers a stunning fall from grace. Ho is betrayed and sent to prison, much to the shame of his brother, police cadet Kit (Leslie Cheung). Mark is crippled during a bloody hit on a rival gang leader, leaving him a shell of a man. Years later the two are reunited, but the world has changed around them. Now at the mercy of their former comrades in the triad, the two form an uneasy alliance with Kit to strike back...with a hailstorm of bullets. Balletic action and hard-nosed melodrama are staples of the triad genre, but it's director John Woo's celebrated themes that raise A Better Tomorrow to greater heights. Honor and brotherhood are given compelling reverence by Woo, and his iconic characters are embodied with grace and toughness by the extraordinary cast. Chow Yun-Fat's characterization of Mark - a suave killer who values honor above all - would become the single greatest icon of the Heroic Bloodshed genre, and a widely-imitated image by filmmakers and fans alike. Winner of numerous film awards, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor (Chow Yun Fat) at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and Best Picture, Director, and Actor (Ti Lung) at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. This edition comes with interviews, trailer and props introduction.

Producer Tsui Hark takes the directing reins from John Woo for the third and final film in the A Better Tomorrow trilogy. A Better Tomorrow III is a prequel to the earlier films, and features the return of Mark, the suave, righteous killer made popular by actor Chow Yun Fat in the original A Better Tomorrow. Still young and without the seasoning which would make him one of the triad underworld's most fearsome killers, Mark journeys to 1974 Saigon, where he hooks up with tough-as-nails gangster Anita Mui. She teaches him the way of the gun, but her former flame doesn't take kindly to Chow's presence around his ex-girlfriend. Making matters worse is a love triangle involving Chow's cousin Tony Leung Ka Fai, and the approaching fall of Saigon. Tsui Hark serves up slow-motion bullet ballet and wrenching melodrama in classic Better Tomorrow tradition, while managing to put his own unique spin on one of Hong Kong Cinema's most beloved franchises.

First-time director Cheng Wei Hao scored a major hit with the atmospheric horror film The Tag-Along. The film draws its inspiration from an unsettling 1998 incident involving a mysterious little girl dressed in red who was caught on video following a group of hikers in the mountains. Called mosien, these creeping spirits are forest-dwelling ghosts that take the form of small children or monkeys, and prey upon a person's hidden guilt and fears. The highest-grossing Taiwan horror film in over a decade, The Tag-Along offers more than scares. Cheng Wei Hao touches upon themes of love, duty, family and the environment while telling a terrifying and uniquely haunting tale. Always-busy real estate agent Wei (Huang He) finds his life upended when his grandmother is taken by the demonic mosien and spirited away to the mountains. In investigating her disappearance, Wei discovers that he's left behind broken promises and dreams in his path to adulthood and his growing fear and guilt impel the mosien to make him their next victim. With Wei taken, his girlfriend Yi Chun (Tiffany Hsu) finds herself next in line. To solve the riddle of the mosien and save Wei from a dark fate, Yi Chun must confront her fears as well as the hidden secrets that threaten to derail her life.

International superstar Jet Li is an Indiana Jones-type adventurer AND a bookish writer in the hilarious, action-packed adventure-comedy Dr. Wai in the Scripture with No Words! Li is a harried author who pens the serial adventures of Dr. Wai, a grave-robbing adventurer in 1930s China. In his current story, Dr. Wai is chasing a mystical treasure (the "Scripture with No Words"), but must contend with rival grave robbers and dastardly Japanese soldiers. Complicating matters are Dr. Wai's sidekicks (Takeshi Kaneshiro and Charlie Yeung), and a sexy femme fatale (Rosamund Kwan) who may or may not be an ally in his quest. However, back in reality, the author has other - not entirely coincidental - issues: a pending divorce to his estranged wife (also Rosamund Kwan), and a couple of sparring office assistants (also Takeshi Kaneshiro and Charlie Yeung) who insist on writing themselves into the latest Dr. Wai adventures! Will the author finish his story, or will these other would-be writers take over his creation? Fact, fiction, fantasy, and high-flying kung-fu collide in this charming adventure from director Ching Siu-Tung (A Chinese Ghost Story).

Third time's the charm as the Kung Fu Mahjong franchise returns for another round with Kung Fu Mahjong 3 - The Final Duel. Directed by Bosco Lam, the film features the usual suspects - television star Roger Kwok (Square Pegs) who skipped out on the sequel but returns for the third film, kung fu duo Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu, and, of course, writer and producer Wong Jing. Kung Fu Mahjong 3 bears no connection to the previous films save for the cast and the love for the tiles. Roger Kwok is supported by a welcome line-up of faces not usually seen on the big screen including TVB starlet and former Miss Hong Kong Shirley Yeung in her film debut, veteran comedic actor Ha Yu, ATV actress Patricia Liu, and stylish ATV actor Ricky Chan Bo Yuen (Confession of Pain). Comedic mainstays DJ Sammy, Wong Yat Fei, and Nat Chan also wander in for some humorous hijinks. Like the previous two films, Kung Fu Mahjong 3 - The Final Duel is light, energetic, and hilarious, providing plenty of good old harmless fun. As the son of the legendary Uncle Man (Ha Yu), suave mahjong expert Ken (Roger Kwok) is the de-facto successor to his father's mahjong business and gambling title. It seems love is in the air for both father and son, as Uncle Man saunters in with his new young wife Sophie (Patricia Liu) and Ken meets the charming Nancy (Shirley Yeung). The good times quickly run dry though when it turns out that Nancy is a bad luck magnet who brings calamity to all she comes in contact with. Stricken with some serious bad luck, Ken just can't stop losing. Meanwhile, the cunning Sophie, working in cahoots with rival Bowie (Ricky Chan), tries to usurp the family business by challenging Ken to a high-stakes mahjong match. Can Ken overcome his losing streak in time to save the business?

The Cases's original film title, a Chinese character meaning the "worship of ghosts and gods", perhaps better illustrates what the movie is all about. Hong Kong supernatural specialist Edmond Poon leads actress Wylie Chiu, singer Khloe Chu, and Malaysian model Brandy Akiko to boldly go where no sane man has gone before - some of the most infamous "forbidden places" in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Bali (Indonesia) - in this Category-III shocker. Supported on their spooky journey by several Southeast Asian exorcists and witchcraft experts, the courageous crew makes close encounters with the supernatural world to get first-hand, never-before-seen documentary footage that offers a rare glimpse into the occult occurrences and inexplicable incidents that have so far defied scientific explanation. Martial arts legend Sammo Hung leads the cast as the fighting chef, while F4's Vanness Wu, who previously displayed his action talents in Kung Fu Fighter and Star Runner, plays his goateed protege. Directed by Ken Yip, Kung Fu Chefs cooks up an entertaining smorgasbord of gourmet drama, budding romance, and journeyman kung-fu action. The film co-stars Japanese beauty Kago Ai and Hong Kong actress Cherrie Ying, as well as martial artists Fan Siu Wong (Ip Man) and Bruce Liang, Sammo Hung's son Timmy Hung, and funnyman Lam Tze Chung (Kung Fu Hustle). After getting ousted from the clan by his vengeful nephew (Fan Siu Wong), disgraced chef Wong (Sammo Hung) happens upon young and arrogant cooking prodigy Lung (Vanness Wu) at the Four Seas restaurant. Director Wong Jing delivers a tough, unexpected triad drama with A True Mob Story. Superstar Andy Lau is Cheung Dee, a low-level triad boss who won fame when he saved superior triad boss Prince (Mark Cheng) from certain death at the hands of the vicious Crazy Ball (Ben Ng). But the years since his famous act have not been kind. Once a righteous, passionate man, Dee is now a spineless patsy who steals credit instead of earning it himself. But when he's set up by his bosses, Dee must take a stand. Can he regain the righteousness of his youth? Andy Lau delivers a powerhouse performance, and director-writer Wong Jing delivers an emotionally complex story. In this bold take on the triad genre, a good man must regain his self-respect by rising up against the same triad underworld that nearly destroyed him. Featuring a packed cast of top Hong Kong stars, including Gigi Leung, Alex Fong and Sam Lee, A True Mob Story surprises with a dark, romantic triad tale that's entertaining, uncompromising, and utterly compelling.
