The most expensive film made in Japan at the time, and now considered one of the director's masterpieces, Kurosawa Akira's Ran is a lush period epic that, like many films of similar scale, encountered a tough uphill battle during its production. Based on William Shakespeare's King Lear, Ran was made during a turbulent period of the master director's career, but that didn't diminish any of his directorial abilities. Featuring large sets and some of the best scenery Japan has to offer, this story of a warlord (reportedly based on Kurosawa himself) dividing his empire among his sons to disastrous results wowed audiences around the world, earning multiple nominations at the Academy Awards that year. To this day, Ran is considered a masterpiece of Japanese Cinema, and now it arrives in high definition on Blu-ray! On the eve of his 70th birthday, warlord Hidetora (Nakadai Tatsuya) has decided to divide his empire among his three sons. His youngest son Saburo (Ryu Daisuke) denounces the plan and is quickly banished, while the two elder sons Taro (Terao Akira) and Jiro (Nezu Jinpachi) gladly go along. However, Taro and Jiro allow greed to take control of them, waging a bloody war against each other for the control of the empire. Soon, Hidetora is banished from his own land, forced to go on the run from the lethal forces of both his sons.

Get ready for more ominous phone calls in the third and apparently final installment of the popular One Missed Call horror franchise started by Miike Takashi. This time directing duties for One Missed Call Final fall on TV director Aso Manabu. Like in the previous two films, terror begins with that special ring tone and a phone message foretelling a horrible death. The filmmakers have added a Battle Royale-meets-Carrie twist to One Missed Call Final, as friends are pitted against each other in a race to save themselves, making the film more thematically complex than the typical vengeful ghost flick. Starring teen idols Horikita Maki (Always - Sunset on Third Street) and Kuroki Meisa (Under the Same Moon), One Missed Call Final is a bone-chilling entry into the J-horror genre that plays on fear, adolescent uncertainties, and the terrifying evil of both the human and spiritual worlds. A group of Japanese high school students go on a school trip to Korea, but little do they know, what awaits them is not fun and games. The students begin to receive cell phone messages with pictures and details of their upcoming deaths. The only way to avoid death is to forward the message to someone else. Hysteric frenzy follows as the students desperately send the cursed message around, turning everyone against each other. The message seems to have originated from timid schoolgirl Asuka (Horikita Maki), who has been bullied one too many times...

Winner of Best Picture and Best Actor at the 33rd Japan Academy Awards, The Sun That Doesn't Set (a.k.a. The Unbroken) is inspired by the events of the 1985 Japan Airlines Flight 123 tragedy, the second deadliest aviation accident in history. The media angle of the JAL123 tragedy was recently covered in the 2008 feature Climber's High. Based on Yamasaki Toyoko's best-selling novel, The Sun That Doesn't Set looks at the incident from the perspective of a sympathetic airline representative tasked to console and settle with the victims' families. Acclaimed actor Watanabe Ken delivers an award-winning performance as airline union head Onchi Hajime whose fight to improve working conditions crosses the corporate honchos and gets him transferred out of Japan. He spends the next ten years working in branch offices in Pakistan, Iran, Kenya, and other far-off places. After years of trials, Onchi is finally called back to Japan - to deal with the country's worst aviation accident ever. Directed by Wakamatsu Setsuro (Whiteout), The Sun That Doesn't Set features an impressive supporting cast that includes Miura Tomokazu, Kagawa Teruyuki, Matsuyuki Yasuko, Suzuki Kyoka, Ishizaka Koji, Kimura Tae, and Toda Erika. This edition comes with a Bonus DVD that includes making of, special program, press conference, preview screening, premiere, trailer, and other extras.

Coinciding with author Dazai Osamu's 100th birthday, producer Kadokawa Tsuguhiko and director Arato Genjiro take on the first film adaptation of the tortured author's novel Ningen Shikakku (a.k.a. No Longer Human). For his ambitious production, Kadokawa gathers an all-star cast which includes Ikuta Toma, Iseya Yusuke, Terajima Shinobu, Ishihara Satomi, and V6's Morita Go. As the producer of the controversial independent film Whispering of the Gods, which could only be shown in a theater built with his own money, Arato is not a director who shies away from dark topics, making him the perfect choice for the project. Completed soon before Dazai's suicide, Ningen Shikakku is a gloomy, semi-autobiographical story about a man's fall from grace and the loss of human conscience. The film stars Johnny's artist Ikuta Toma as Oba Yozo, a man who is consumed by his alienation from those around him. Unable to get over a childhood trauma, Oba goes on a path of self-destruction with alcohol and woman - a dangerous mix that will prove to be fatal. Blu-ray Edition comes with a bonus DVD featuring making of, stage greeting event, trailers, and more.

Three-time Godzilla director Tezuka Masaaki helms Sengoku Jietai 1549 ("Samurai Commando 1549"), a contemporary remake of Saito Kosei's 1979 film GI Samurai, a time travel tale that starred the legendary actor Sonny Chiba. With a script by popular novelist Fukui Harutoshi, state-of-the-art CGI special effects, and topical references to North Korea and Iraq, this reimagination of the 1970s era film looks to top the original on every level! To realism to its sensational tale, the film was made with the participation of Japan's Special Defense Force and features actual military vehicles and equipment, from tanks to helicopters and everything in between! Sengoku Jietai 1549 revolves a highly classified test involving an experiemental magnetic shield. When the second lieutenant in charge Rei Kanzaki (Suzuki Kyoka) accidentally causes a rift in the space time continuum, a group of SDF soldiers are thrown back in time to the year 1549! The government tries to cover up the accident, but years later, when an opportunity arises, a military unit codenamed "Romeo" is sent through the portal of time to bring back their missing comrades and save the world from total annihilation. Led by Kashima (Yosuke Eguchi), this special unit soon discovers that the previous unit's head honcho, Colonel Matoba (Kaga Takeshi), has tried to change the course of history by transforming Japan into the dominant world superpower! Can he be defeated? And if not, how will his meddling affect time itself? It'll take a lot more than luck for these soldiers to get back to the future, but all will be revealed in Sengoku Jietai 1549, a modern remake that just might outdo the original! This DTS 6.1 limited release includes two bonus DVDs with hidden story, virtual game, making-of footage, documentaries, quiz, special effects info, multi-angle special effects scenes, cast interviews, theatrical trailers, and TV spots.

Takashi Miike is a busy man, but his hard schedule doesn't seem to be affecting the quality of his films. "Chakushin Ari," released in theaters in early 2004, is the story of college student Yuki Nakamura, played by Shibasaki Kou (Battle Royale). Bored at a singles party, Yuki waits for her friend Yoko, who arrives to the party late after finishing work. While Yoko is changing clothes in the ladies room, she receives a phone call with a spooky ring tone she has never heard before. To make things creepier, the call appears to be from her own phone. Yoko listens to the message, which is dated three days in the future, and hears her own voice saying "It's started raining." The short message is followed by a bloodcurdling scream. Several days later, the events heard in the message actually occur, and Yoko meets a gruesome death. However, Yoko isn't the last person to hear this strange ring tone. Others begin getting similar calls and meeting similar fates, and Yumi finds herself in a race against time to solve the mystery before her own number comes up...

Actor Oguri Shun crashes his way into the film director world with Surely Someday, his directorial debut. Loosely based on his own high school days, the film has been in the works since 2005, when Oguri wrote a one-page outline. However, the project did not officially go ahead until Oguri asked Crows Zero screenwriter Sato Shogo to turn the outline into a feature-length script. An energetic comedy about the recklessness of youth and its consequences, Surely Someday features a talented cast led by Koide Keisuke (Nodame Cantabile), Katsuji Ryo (Shonen Merikensack), Ayano Go (Crows Zero II), Suzuki Ryohei (Yankee-kun to Magane-chan), and Muro Tsuyoshi (Yatterman). Oguri also calls in all his favors, inviting star actors Inoue Mao, Otake Shinobu, Okamura Takashi, Tsumabuki Satoshi, Ueto Aya, and Takenaka Naoto for cameos. Packed with directorial flair, outlandish humor, and lots of young male bonding, Surely Someday is a loud proclamation that a new talent has arrived on the film directing scene, and his name is Oguri Shun. Takumi (Koide Keisuke) and his four friends have always been troublemakers with plans that don't tend to work out very well for them. When their dream of performing on stage as a band at their high school festival is shattered, the five build a bomb and threatens the school into letting them perform. The school grants their request, but the bomb blows up anyway, causing the five to be expelled. After losing themselves in direction-less lives for several years, the boys are reunited when Takumi runs into a sex worker (Konishi Manami) that he had a crush on years ago. The ensuing adventure sends them to an escape from dangerous gangsters, an attempt at bank robbery, and maybe even a chance at giving the performance they wanted to give since their high school days. 8-disc Memorial Edition comes with visual commentary by director and cast, a 6-DVD documentary on the making of the film, a schedule book, a bookmark, a 64-page artist book produced by Oguri Shun, and a message card by Oguri. It also comes with the film's Special Edition DVD, featuring the DVD version of the film, audio commentary by director and cast, making of, deleted scenes with commentary, stage event at the Yubari Film Festival, a digest of the Surely Someday Super Summer concert, and trailers.

Starring teen idols Horikita Maki (Always - Sunset on Third Street) and Kuroki Meisa (Under the Same Moon, One Missed Call Final is a bone-chilling entry into the J-horror genre that plays on fear, adolescent uncertainties, and the terrifying evil of both the human and spiritual worlds.

Peter Chan Ho-sun finally returns with Perhaps Love, the closing film for the Venice Film Festival 2005 and a nominee for Oscar Best Foreign Language Film. The film features a star-studded cast, including top Mainland actress Zhou Xun, Hong Kong super singer Jacky Cheung, Takeshi Kaneshiro who has been on the rise in Japan, and also Korean actor Ji Jin Hee who is best-known for his role in Dae Jang Geum. Peter Pau, after his Oscar winning cinematography for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, serves as the cinematographer for Perhaps Love, another potential Oscar winning film. The crew also includes top musician Peter Kam for film scores and famous art director Yee Chung-man for the production design. In this splendid movie musical, Takeshi Kaneshiro stars as Lin Jiantung, a film-student-turned-actor who first encountered Sun Na, played by Zhou Xun, 10 years ago at film school. Sun Na now becomes famous director Nie Wen's (Jacky Cheung) girlfriend, apparently in exchange for a better career. She keeps forgetting her past, while Lin Jiantung indulges himself in remembering his romance with her ten years ago. Now all three of them has to work together in a musical, the plot of which is amazingly similar to their own experiences! Some say Peter Chan offers a Chinese version of the famous musical movie Chicago. Whether this claim holds true or not, in Perhaps Love Peter Chan has explored an art form which very few Hong Kong or even Chinese film directors dare try. Yet, beneath all the enchanting singing and spectacular dancing scenes indeed lies the theme of romance, which seems a recurring motif in all Peter Chan films from Comrades, Almost a Love Story to Perhaps Love. This edition includes the following features: Takeshi Kaneshiro, Ji Jin Hee, and Peter Chan in Japan Making Of Music Clips (6) Behind the Scenes Footage Original Theatrical Trailer Japanese Theatrical Trailer

Dazzling J-pop princess and new generation silver screen star Ueto Aya welcomes you to her latest blockbuster hit. Install is based on a story by acclaimed novelist Wataya Risa, Japan's youngest two-time literature prize winner. Ueto portrays 17-year-old high school girl Asoko who is suffering from over-boredom. After a frustrationg outbreak, she decides to throw away her computer. However, never in her worst nightmares could she have guessed that a clever 10-year-old elementary school boy, Kazuyoshi, would pick it up from the garbage dump, fix it, and set up an erotic on-line chat room with a stolen log-on pass code. When Shioko accidentally runs into the young mastermind, he asks her to replace him as the 26-year-old hostess of his exclusive erotic chatroom for primary school boys. Shioko's curiosity wins over and she accepts the position, setting in motion a story that is as amusing as it is unbelievable!
