In the post-credit scene of the first Umizaru film, the filmmakers foreshadowed that rescue diver Senzaki and his team of Sea Monkeys will be on a perilous rescue mission involving a jet plane crashing into Tokyo Bay. That scenario becomes the set up for Brave Hearts Umizaru, the fourth film of the blockbuster film series! Star Ito Hideaki once again dons the wet suit as heroic rescuer Senzaki, returning along with Kato Ai as his long-suffering wife Kanna. However, the focus is being shifted to Sato Ryota's longtime sidekick Yoshioka, whose romance with flight attendant Mika (Naka Riisa) forms the emotional core of the film this time around. As they have done throughout the series, director Hasumi Eichiro and screenwriter Fukuda Yasushi have created another gripping, emotional blockbuster that became one of the top-grossing Japanese films in 2012. Two years have passed since the oil platform accident in The Last Message. Heroic rescue diver Senzaki Daisuke (Ito Hideaki) and longtime teammate Yoshioka (Sato Ryuta) have since transferred to the front line as members of a special rescue unit. While Senzaki and his wife Kanna (Kato Ai) are about to welcome a second child into their happy family, Yoshioka has also found love with flight attendant Mika (Naka Riisa). One day, Mika's Tokyo-bound flight catches mechanical trouble, putting over 300 souls in danger as the pilots attempt an emergency landing on water. Despite the plane landing safely, Senzaki, Yoshioka and their fellow sea monkeys only have 20 minutes to get everyone out before it sinks into water.

Intercontinental Video The Shepherd Girl (Hong Kong Version)
RM 62.20

From Lo Chen, director of It's All In The Family, comes The Shepherd Girl, a heartwarming 1963 musical from the venerable Shaw Brothers studio! In this romantic melodrama, Julie Yeh Feng (from Sister Long Legs, Unfinished Melody, and Farewell, My Love) stars as Hsiu Hsiu, a beautiful singing shepherdess who falls head over heels in love with a handsome boatman named Liu Ta Lung (Kwan Shan, from The Blue And The Black and Between Tears And Smiles). Unfortunately, she can't afford to marry her new beau because her father has racked up numerous debts due to his uncontrollable gambling addiction. And to make matters even more complicated, there's a rival suitor who promises to pay off all of her no-good father's debts on the condition that he is given Hsiu Hsiu's hand in marriage. She initially declines his offer, but starts to get jealous when she sees Ta Lung getting a little too close for comfort with another woman. In retaliation, she starts flirting with her possible benefactor/husband-to-be. But what Hsiu Hsiu doesn't know is that her jealousy isn't based on any actual unfaithfulness, but on an unfortunate misunderstanding! Yet just as soon as that romantic problem is resolved, another rears its ugly head. The heroic Ta Lung decides to venture out to sea in order to make enough money to pay off her father's mounting bills and take Hsiu Hsiu as his wife. She begins to worry when Ta Lung doesn't come back, causing the heartbroken young shepherdess to believe her one true love is lost at sea, never to return. And with the rival suitor's offer still on the table and her father's financial woes in need of some sort of remedy, Hsiu Hsiu has no choice but to go through with the marriage. But is her lover truly dead? And if not, is there any chance he'll be able to stop the ceremony in time? Find out in The Shepherd Girl, a crowd pleasing romantic musical featuring Au Yeung Sa Fei (from Whose Baby Is In The Classroom?) and Chuang Guong Chau (from Love Without End in supporting roles!

Intercontinental Video A Deadly Secret
RM 62.20
YesAsia
Highly controversial filmmaker Mou Tun-Fei, the director of the gory cult classic Man Behind the Sun (1988) and its unflinchingly brutal sequel Black Sun (1995), stepped into the director's chair for the first time in 1980 with A Deadly Secret, a relentless thriller full of exciting martial arts and harrowing cruelty! Veteran Shaw Brothers actor Yueh Hua (Monkey Goes West, The Twelve Gold Medallions, and Come Drink With Me) stars as a villainous government official obsessed with discovering the secret location of a long-hidden treasure. In fact, this madman is so committed to this aim that he actually buries his own daughter alive to prove it! This unthinkably horrible decision ends up sparking a stunning chain reaction, one that will have devastating consequences for all caught in the magistrate's frenzied path! And be sure not to miss A Deadly Secret's pulse-pounding, highly ironic conclusion sure to make this film stand out from the rest of the pack!Featuring appearances by Shih Szu (Heroes of Sung), Jason Pai Piao (The Emperor and His Brother), Liu Li Ling (Holy Flame of the Martial World), Wu Yuan Chin(Five Superfighters), and Dick Wei (Project A), A Deadly Secret is an extreme martial arts film about the dangers of deception, greed, and harrowing sadism! In a more mainstream precursor to the infamous films that would follow, director Mou Tun Fei delivers a decidedly different kind of Shaw Brothers motion picture. And as a nice bonus, the re-mastered Celestial DVD features bonus trailers, a picture gallery, poster art, biographies/filmographies, and production notes to satisfy the curiosity of Shaw Brothers film fans.

Hailed as the Japanese answer to America's Top Gun, the Coast Guard drama Umizaru was the box office sensation of 2004 and even spawned a follow-up television series, Umizaru Evolution. The eagerly anticipated sequel Limit of Love: Umizaru built on the success of earlier entries in the series and went on to become a smash hit in Japan, easily eclipsing the box office take of the previous film. Known as Umizaru 2: Test of Trust in some foreign markets, this winning sequel once again centers on the exploits of Senzaki Daisuke (Ito Hideaki), a young recruit who survived the Japanese Coast Guard's grueling diver training program in the first movie. Now engaged to Kanna (Kato Ai, reprising her role from both the original Umizaru and the TV spin-off), Senzaki is experiencing a bad case of cold feet due to some personal trauma that he just can't seem to get past. But all that emotional baggage comes to a head when he learns about a terrible accident involving a ship. It seems that a fire has broken out onboard the Clover, a gigantic ferry carrying 620 people and close to two hundred vehicles - all with highly explosive potential. Even worse, Kanna is on that ship! With all hell breaking loose, the task of rescuing the passengers and averting disaster is laid upon the Umizaru crew! But will they - and Senzaki himself - have what it takes to save the day? Find out in the blockbuster sequel that surpasses the original, Limit of Love: Umizaru!

A popular Chinese romance gets adapted to the glorious big screen in The Three Smiles, a Huangmei opera that's both charming and timeless. Ivy Ling Bor has the gender-bending lead role as Tang Bohu, a famous scholar who masquerades as peasant Hua An to worm his way into the life of pretty maiden Autumn Fragrance (Li Jing), who resides in the court of Lady Hua, wife of the Grand Tutor. Bohu's desire is spurred by the eponymous "three smiles", which were smiles delivered to Bohu by Autumn Fragrance on three separate occasions. However, once he enters the court of Lady Hua, it's not so easy for a peasant to gain the notice of a maiden! Featuring charming Mandarin songs and gorgeous costumes and set designs, The Three Smiles was a major Hong Kong Cinema hit and one of the most beloved films to emerge from the Shaw Brothers vaults. In 1993, the same story behind The Three Smiles served as the blueprint for the blockbuster nonsense comedy Flirting Scholar, starring Stephen Chow and Gong Li.

Directed by Jeff Lau (A Chinese Odyssey, All for the Winner), this 1995 film features Chow at his most wild and wacky as a mental patient who battles ghosts. Chow is Leon, a black-clad, sunglasses-wearing ghostbuster who arrives at a high-rise Hong Kong housing estate in time to save the locals from some pissed off ghosts. But more ghosts will be arriving soon, so Leon must train the security staff in his wacked-out spectre-battling ways - which include tools like a slingshot, candies, plastic wrap, and a ghost-sensing plant. His plans work, putting the ghosts on the ropes, but once Leon himself is possessed by a particularly malicious ghost, will anybody be able to stop him? Co-starring Karen Mok, Out of the Dark has earned a reputation as Stephen Chow's darkest film, adding brutal violence, copious blood, and scads of black humor to the nonsense jokes, movie parodies, and toilet humor that fans of his early work expect. Aside from the obvious nod towards Luc Besson's Leon (a.k.a. The Professional), Chow and company skewer Highlander, Wong Kar-Wai's Fallen Angels (Karen Mok does the honors by parodying her own award-winning role), and even director Jeff Lau's long history of successful horror comedies, including The Haunted Cop Shop, Operation Pink Squad 2, and Mortuary Blues, among others. Breathlessly-paced and outrageously off-color, Out of the Dark is easily one of Stephen Chow's most hilarious (and notorious) works.

From He's a Woman, She's a Man to Comrades, Almost a Love Story to Perhaps Love, Peter Chan seems to have perfected the formula for commercial filmmaking. Chan is the rare director who connects with both mainstream audiences and arthouse critics, so it's no surprise that his first stab at the big-budget war epic, The Warlords, has become one of Hong Kong's biggest blockbusters of 2007. Superstars Jet Li, Andy Lau, and Takeshi Kaneshiro star in this grand and gritty tale of war, romance, and brotherhood in 19th-century China. Based on Chang Cheh's Blood Brothers, the film features action choreography from Ching Siu Tung (Hero) and impressive, large-scale battle scenes befitting of the big screen. Jet Li gives the most compelling dramatic performance of his career, departing from his previous image to embody a complex, morally torn character. Also starring acclaimed Mainland actress Xu Jinglei (Confession of Pain), The Warlords is one of the greatest cinematic events of 2007, and Hong Kong has answered its call with record box office numbers. The Warlords is set during the Taiping Rebellion when the Qing Dynasty was brought to its knees by a militant demagogue who attracted hundreds of thousands of disgruntled insurgents to his cause, thrusting the nation into chaotic infighting and warlordism. Emerging from a field of corpses, Qing General Pang (Jet Li) is the only member of his troop to survive a fatal battle with enemy forces. Wandering through the impoverished land, he encounters young outlaw Jiang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and ends up joining a gang of bandits led by the brash and brazen Zhao (Andy Lau). Realizing that the only way to survive during such times is to join the fight, Pang, Zhao, and Jiang form their own army and offer their services to the Qing. Bounded by their blood oath, the sworn brothers lay down their lives for victory on the battlefield, but their brotherhood is tested by politics, personal ambition, and rivalry for the hand of Zhao's wife (Xu Jinglei).

The directing duo behind horror hits like The Eye and Re-cycle, the Pang Brothers gives a Hollywood makeover to their own breakthrough film, action thriller Bangkok Dangerous, with Nicolas Cage in the leading role. While the original Bangkok Dangerous (1999) revolved around a deaf-mute Thai assassin, the 2008 Hollywood remake follows brooding American hitman Joe who heads to Bangkok to complete an assignment for a Thai mob boss. Joe has one month to off four people, including the Prime Minister of Thailand, but when things don't go as planned, he himself turns into the mob's target. In a twist from the original, Hong Kong actress Charlie Yeung co-stars as a deaf-mute woman whom Joe falls for, providing some quiet moments amid the film's thrilling shoot-outs and gritty action.

Director Li Han Hsiang draws from his thirty years in the business to create Passing Flickers, a frank, funny, and sometimes tellingly off-color account of what it was like to work in Hong Kong's fast-food film industry. Based on a popular newspaper column by Li recounting his work at Shaw Brothers, the film is an episodic pastiche of moments detailing the rigors of martial arts filmmaking, the gorgeous collection of Shaw's library of sets and costumes, and the low-brow antics of the notorious erotic film output from the famed studio. Li Han Hsiang's filmography was full of popular historical epics and comedies, such as the famous Emperor Chien Lung series, though the director was responsible for a few naughty erotic comedies, too! Thanks to his varied and comprehensive career, Li's musings on the filmmaking life are able to fascinate with an authentic and even cynical wit. Full of amusing behind-the-scenes asides and a number of familiar Shaw Brothers faces (including Anthony Lau and Goo Fung), Passing Flickers is required viewing for anyone interested in filmmaking from the glorious bygone Shaw Brothers era!

Melodrama and exploitation get combined for The Girlie Bar, a popular Shaw Brothers film with skin, sin, and even some social discourse. Yeh Feng plays a widower forced to employ his three beautiful daughters as prostitutes to make ends meet. His daughters take to their sordid profession in varying ways, but the youngest Fen (Lin Chen Chi) wants out of the life, and demonstrates it by refusing to sleep with an old drunk. To reward her for her integrity, her father whips her! Possible salvation comes in the form of a rich college boy, but will Fen's past ruin any chance for love? Meanwhile, middle daughter Yan (Chen Ping) is pregnant and abandoned, and eldest Hong (Helen Ko) is a widow who must raise her son while still working for her dear old dad! The bar has a variety of other stories, but nearly all point the sad and cruel vagaries of fate which lead people to lead such desperate lives. Plus there's sex and seduction, and more than a little skin. The Girlie Bar may be more than a skin flick, but it doesn't shy away from exploitation elements, making this an alternately affecting and titillating Hong Kong movie.

Real-life couple Chen Hou and Lok Dai star in The Dancing Millionairess, a charming musical production from Shaw Brothers studios! Chen Hou is a chauffeur who gets caught in a mistaken identity scandal linking him to businesswoman Lok Dai. Chen was supposed to audition for a job as her chauffeur, but a proposed musical show is far more attractive to the aspiring dancer. When a rumor gets out that the two are involved in an affair, she's angry and confronts him, but his charms overwhelm her, and it's revealed that she too desires to dance. Soon she's bankrolling the affair, the sets are being built, and the singing and dancing begin! Filmed in glorious Shawscope with lush, gorgeous color photography, The Dancing Millionairess is similar to many musicals from Hollywood's golden age, in that it possesses an airy, screwball comedy plot full of misdirection and mistaken identities. But nothing matters compared to the sumptuous musical numbers, which are among the best seen in a Shaw Brothers production!

With such legendary kung fu films like Come Drink With Me and 36th Chamber of Shaolin filling up their impressive film library, it's no wonder that the Shaw Brothers name quickly became synonymous with classic martial arts action. Be that as it may, what many people don't realize is that Shaw Brothers never confined itself to releasing only kung fu extravaganzas, but in fact, produced a wide variety of films during its heyday, ranging from rollicking comedies to Huangmei Operas. And during that long cinematic history, the studio even ventured into the erotic film genre, releasing a number of sexually provocative motion pictures! One such example is the suggestively titled The Sugar Daddies, a 1973 erotic film helmed by Sun Zhong, director of such pictures as The Proud Youth and Big Bad Sis. Shaw Brothers regular Zong Hua, who appeared in Call to Arms and Lover's Destiny, takes a break from his typical dramatic roles to portray a very different kind of character, a philandering lout named Hu Tien. During the day, Hu Tien lives as a respectable office employee, but when night falls, he unashamedly plunges headlong into an exciting world of lust and sex as a high-class Hong Kong pimp! Thanks to his uncanny knack for setting up prostitutes with "sugar daddies," Hu Tien starts living the high life. Things take an even more dramatic turn when the drop-dead gorgeous Irene (Betty Pei Ti from The Delinquent and Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan) enters the fray. Thanks to Hu Tien's involvement, this rough and tumble new vixen soon finds herself being the center of attention among all the wealthy sugar daddies. But is his relationship with Irene merely business or is there more to it? Find out in the erotically-charged The Sugar Daddies; it's one Shaw Brothers movie that's sure to turn up the heat!

An American news crew is sent to Burundi, Africa to capture the legendary crocodile Gustave, which stalks a local river in search of human prey. Embattled producer Tim Manfrey (Dominic Purcell), reporter Aviva Masters (Brooke Langton), and their cameraman Steven Johnson (Orlando Jones), plus two animal experts set, out on their crocodile hunt. Thanks to CGI work and the crocodile's larger-than-life size, Gustave's screentime provides some genuine action-packed thrills. However, human cruelty might turn out more gruesome than the killer crocodile, as a local warlord, nicknamed Little Gustave, demonstrates greater brutality than the creature that he is named after.

In 1998, a mysterious video showing a girl coming out of a well made us all fearful of what we watch on our television screens. It's been over a decade since that long-haired girl haunted our movie screens, and now, it's time for a new generation to discover what the legendary Sadako is all about with Sadako 3D. The world has become a much different place since the first Ring film, as we are surrounded by screens everywhere we go. Novelist Suzuki Koji and writer-director Hanabusa Tsutomu both manage to take advantage of modern technology, creating a new Sadako who can reach her victim via any screen including the one on your cell phone! In another display of modern technology, Sadako 3D is also the first film in the Ring series to be shot in 3D, putting audiences closer to Sadako than ever before! An Internet video showing a suicide has been linked to two mysterious suicides, prompting rumors that the video itself is cursed. Schoolteacher Akane (Ishihara Satomi) begins to investigate the rumors because one of the two suicides involves her student. She discovers that the video was created by an artist intent on bringing Sadako and her evil power back into the world. After escaping an attack by Sadako, Akane remembers an incident from her high school days and realizes that she has a unique ability that will give her the power to defeat the well-dwelling spirit. Note: 3D television, 3D Blu-ray player, and 3D glasses are required to view the 3D version of the film.
