HTC Malaysia: Smartphones at a Reasonable Price Tag

Innovation has always been HTC's driving force when it comes to producing and marketing their various smartphones and services. The technology and concepts they incorporate into their devices have set the bar higher on the smartphone market, making them one of the most competitive companies in the world. Before they became the tech giant they are now, they also got their taste of humble pie.

HTC’s Story

Founded in 1997 by Peter Chou, Cher Wang, and H.T. Cho, HTC started as a manufacturer of notebook computers. Their earnings were not that impressive since they were not a well-known brand back then. So, they decided to start manufacturing hand-held devices in 1998. They pioneered the creation of the first Microsoft-powered smartphone in 2002 and the first Microsoft 3G phone in 2005. In 2010, they made the first 4G-capable phone in the United States which they named HTC Evo 4G. Although the product was a success in the USA, they sold over 24.6 million handsets in China, which significantly elevated their position in the mobile phone market.

HTC Today

Today, HTC’s product portfolio focuses on smartphones and cameras. With that, they guarantee that the concepts and technology they incorporate into their devices are suited to the needs of modern-day users. Due to their unending dedication to creating quality products, they received many accolades including the “Device Manufacturer of the Year” in 2011 at the Mobile World Congress. They also outperformed Nokia in the same year in terms of market value, making them the third highly valued smartphone manufacturer after Apple and Samsung.

Tips for Travelling with Your Smartphone with HTC Malaysia

Smartphones are one of the gadgets that make everything easier including traveling. From Google Translate and Maps to booking apps, there are a lot of useful apps you can install on your HTC phone while hitting the road. Nevertheless, before going on a trip, there are important things you need to do in order to make the most out of your HTC smartphone while traveling.

Bring the right accessories

You might need accessories for your HTC phone while you are on a trip like portable batteries, phone cases, and much more. These things will enhance the functionality of your phone and protect it from damages, ensuring it works throughout the trip.

Power bank

You won’t see many sockets around while traveling to charge your devices. But if you have a power bank with you, situations where you run out of battery can be prevented. HTC Malaysia offers power banks with a battery capacity ranging from 5000 to 10000 mAh. Power banks with such capacities are sufficient enough to last for at least 2 days.

Selfie Stick

Whether you are traveling solo or with a group, this tool comes handy when you want to take remarkable shots from various angles. With a selfie stick, there’s no need to ask strangers for help to click a photo for you. When you buy one, go for a model that can hold different sizes of handsets, whether it is a phablet or a standard pocket-sized phone. Also, one that has a metal wire grip is an ideal option since it is easy to set up and use.

Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Whether you are out on a trip alone or with friends, a portable Bluetooth speaker is one of the best accessories you can bring in your travels. It does not require cables or wires to operate, providing you a hassle-free experience. Choose one that comes with a number of inputs and outputs so you can attach other devices. It is also best to select one that can access premium music services like Spotify, aside from streaming audio from your computer.

External Zoom Lens

This is a must-have for travelers who are into mobile photography. It’s easy to use, just clip it on the lens of your phone and let its camera components do the work. If you are in the market for one, go for one that comes with a sturdy mounting clip and a crystal-clear glass lens for crisp images.

Check with your provider if your phone will work overseas

If you have plans spending your vacation overseas, first, check with your provider if the phone will work in such situation. Next, take note of your phone plan and see how much it will cost if you use your data or make a few phone calls. If it’s expensive, consider going for an international data and calling package to save money. This is also a good option if you don’t want to remove your SIM card. So, if possible, request for a plan that works in the destination you are going to by calling your provider. If the plan goes through, the provider, in most cases, cancels it once you come back.

Unlock your phone if you decide to use a foreign SIM card

If your provider does not have an international data and calling package, worry not because your phone can still work abroad by using a foreign carrier’s SIM card. Just make sure your phone is unlocked so you can enable the SIM card’s features. HTC phones and tablets come already unlocked when you buy one, however, there are some locked variants that are purchased from carriers. If your phone happens to be locked, you can unlock it by looking for resources online. However, if you can’t find one, contact your customer service to figure out how to unlock your handset before traveling.

Set up a lock screen

This is an essential thing to do while traveling so if anyone steals it, then they won’t be able to access your data and take over your personal info. There are many ways you can lock your phone’s display, from simple passwords to fingerprint scanners. HTC smartphones in Malaysia sport fingerprint scanners like the HTC Desire 10 Pro. If your phone doesn’t come with a fingerprint scanner, then you can set up a lock screen where you need to draw a pattern to unlock it. This kind of lock screen is great since it is harder to crack, just make sure you create a difficult pattern.

Beware of Unsecured Wi-Fi Networks

When going on a trip abroad, connecting to a public Wi-Fi hotspot can save you money on data fees. However, keep in mind that Wi-Fi provides less secure connection, especially those that are not password protected. This can lead to hackers intercepting communications and stealing your passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal information. So, if you want to connect to a public Wi-Fi network, it’s best to use a VPN (virtual private network) for a more secure connection.
