La Violetta Wines Up! Shiraz 2014
RM 198.70
Harvey Nichols

Use code CNY10 for 10% OFF discount on fashion only | Dark red wine from Denmark; is this Scandi noir? OK, so this Shiraz isn't Danish, it comes from a township called Denmark in the deep south of Western Australia. Known as Great Southern, this up-and-coming region - aided by climate change and the cooling influence of Antarctica - is producing some of Oz's most exciting wines. As proven by the single vineyard Up! Shiraz, which is dark as night; blackcurrant, black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black olive, black pepper and a black marble appearance. But there's also lovely notes of rose and violet. La Violetta takes its name from an old Piedmontese song celebrating the joys of a little intoxication. So that gives you a feel for what winemaker Andrew "aj" Hoadley is going for. This is drinkable fun; pure and simple. Hoadley bumped into a French winemaker travelling to see the Great Wall of China and the rest is history. He's worked in Beaujolais, Montrachet, Piedmont, Abruzzo, Washington State and all over his homeland via stints at Aussie big boys De Bortoli and Hardy's, so he knows his onions. This is a wine that will appeal to New World wine lovers as well as fans of Cornas and the Northern Rhône. Serve it up with barbacoa, chipotle-based tacos, empanadas, steak and chimichurri sauce, slow roasted aubergine, duck rillettes, rustic meat dishes and anything with burnt edges of oven baked cheese on it. For pure joy, maybe pour a glass of Up! and watch Pixar's Up.£5 per 100.00ml

Tenute Dettori Badde Nigolosu 2012
RM 151.00
Harvey Nichols

Use code CNY10 for 10% OFF discount on fashion only | A leader, not a follower. Alessandro Dettori is one of Italy's most renowned natural winemakers. In his own words: "I do not follow the market; I make wines that please me, wine of my own local area, wines of Sennori." Certified organic and biodynamic, handcrafted using Cannonau grapes - a Sardinian grape many claim to be Grenache but Alessandro thinks otherwise - grown in a Badde Nigolosu, a high natural amphitheatre in Sennori and Tenute Dettori's Cru vineyard. When we say that this is minimal intervention, we do mean that it's made traditionally and naturally without too much fiddling and manipulation, but there's more to it than that. It's made without consideration of tourists and export markets; Tuderi is honest and pure, made for locals in the style they like to drink. It's made with minimal impact on the environment; the winery barely has electricity, everything is gravity fed, the temperature is controlled by 2.5m thick walls, they use recycled materials and return prunings, stems and grape skins are returned to the earth of the vineyard. Elegance is the name of the game here, Tuderi is Sardinia's answer to Pinot Noir. Silky, delicate and intensely refreshing; light-bodied by heavy in complexity. Red pepper, mushrooms with a twist of black pepper, a blend of red cherries and cherry tomatoes, a wisp of smoke reminiscent of cigars or incense, leather and dried herbs are all abound. Very food friendly, but keep the food simple and let the finest ingredients sing out: heirloom tomatoes, wild mushrooms, game, creamy cheeses and homemade pasta.£3.8 per 100.00ml
