New YotaPhone 3 Launches with E-Ink Display
Innovation and experimentation is a norm in the smartphone industry as developers vie to have an upper hand over its competitors. Yota felt that a smartphone could benefit from an e-ink display, which is featured in its newly unveiled YotaPhone 3.
The new smartphone comes with identical features that were suggested by reports earlier this year. The reports speculated that the phone will be available in two storage variants – 64GB and 128GB versions. Furthermore, like its predecessors, the YotaPhone is going to have a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen in front and a 5.2-inch 720p secondary grayscale e-ink display around the back. The e-ink display also comes with 3 capacitive buttons to enable users to navigate the software without needing to use the main AMOLED panel.
The new addition to the YotaPhone series will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with the company’s YotaOS 3.0 OEM ROM. The heart of the device is an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. In terms of the cameras on the smartphone, the YotaPhone 3 is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with a dual-tone flash support. It will be paired with a 12-megapixel camera on the front for taking selfies. To power the device, the YotaPhone 3 comes with a 3,300mAh capacity battery and is accompanied by a USB Type-C port for charging. The new smartphone can support two SIM cards to provide more productivity in a single device.
Besides that, Yota has mentioned that the YotaPhone 3’s primary target audience is young individuals who enjoy reading. Hence, the smartphone will be shipped with pre-installed applications for reading electronic books and a carefully selected library comprising of classical and modern literature.
It is still unsure whether the smartphone will be available in physical stores in Malaysia or not. However, pre-orders began on 5th September and actual sales will start from September 18th onwards.
