Redmi 5 Plus Malaysia Review – Bigger is Indeed Better
Xiaomi has been credited for producing feature-filled and wallet-friendly smartphones that are comparable to the top models on the market today. The Redmi 5 Plus is another wallet-friendly Xiaomi smartphone that is packed with incredible features found commonly in models priced much higher.
Design and Construction
Compared to its predecessors, the Redmi 5 Plus sports some changes in terms of its design. The phone has an eye-catching design. At the front, the Redmi 5 Plus is equipped with a 5.99-inch display panel with small bezels at the top and bottom of the screen, giving a tall and slim profile. Its rounded edges and svelte build makes it comfortable to hold and use.
Display and Audio
In terms of its display, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus comes with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display panel which is an uncommon sight for a phone in this price range. The display has an 18:9 aspect ratio, providing generous screen real estate for consuming your bingeing on your favourite dramas and games. Colours are accurate, icons are crisp, and the screen is bright enough to be used under direct sunlight without viewability problems.
Audio-wise, the speaker is sufficient for everyday consumption and basic gaming. You can also crank up the volume without any loss in clarity. Apart from the lack of bass, the speakers deserve a thumbs up for the overall sound quality it delivers.
The cameras on the Redmi 5 Plus might be a tad disappointing for you, especially since smartphones today mostly feature either dual rear or front shooters. Despite the lack of a dual-camera setup, the 12MP primary snapper still does a decent job in well-lit conditions, capturing well-detailed photos without being over- or under-exposed. Moreover, Xiaomi has added a motherload of modes and settings for users to experiment with including HDR, HHT, Beautify, Tilt-Shift, and many more choices.
As for videos, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is able to record at 4K capacity at 30fps in MP4 format. This should be more than enough for your everyday Facebook Live or Instagram Story videos.
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 5 Plus runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor that is paired with an Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. Together, they deliver a snappy performance, enabling the phone to handle mundane tasks such as browsing the Web and launching multiple applications with ease. Light to medium games such as Mobile Legends, Gems of War, and Candy Crush run smoothly without any drop in frame rates.
The battery efficiency provided by the Redmi 5 Plus is another reason to consider the phone. Its massive 4,000mAh battery can easily power the device through a busy day of usage on a single charge.
