Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic Edition is Officially Sold Out

25/5/2017
Reymart Sarigumba

Recently, Xiaomi launched the ceramic edition of their latest flagship smartphone, the Mi 6, in China in May 23. Just within the day of its launch, all units were sold out due to its extremely high demand.  A few days after its launch, the company began selling the ceramic edition through its website. Just like what happened on the first day of release, it was sold out within the day. Now, the special edition of the Mi 6 is no longer available on their website. Currently, Xiaomi has not said a word on when it will start selling the device again. Though it is believed that as soon as Xiaomi will no longer experience any more delays on the production, the special edition of the Mi 6 will be available again soon.

Besides its ceramic body, the device hosts the same features as the standard edition of the Mi 6. It comes with a 5.15-inch screen with full HD capability. It runs on the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 processor and Adreno 540 GPU with 8 cores clocked at 2.45 GHz and 1.9 GHz. It also has a 6 GB of RAM and two internal memory variants: a 64 GB and a 128 GB edition. Unfortunately, both versions don’t come with a microSD slot. In the camera department, the handset wields two 12 MP rear camera sensors: one comes with a wide-angle lens, while the other is packed with a telephoto lens. It also has a front-facing camera with an 8 MP resolution. Other features of the Mi 6 ceramic edition include a 3,350 mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, and the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.

The ceramic edition of the Mi 6 costs 1865 RM which comes at a slightly higher price from the standard edition’s 1554 RM (which converts to 503 SGD, 18134 PHP, 2,830 HKD). The standard edition of the Mi 6 is now available in South East Asian markets.

After its official launch at an event in China in April, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has received much fanfare for its 3D glass design, internal hardware, and other impressive features.

Design-wise, the Mi 6 is a combination of its predecessors. It has the glass body of the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the metal frame of the Mi 5s. The metal frame appears to be an extension of its glass body since it has an elegant finish. With that, the Mi 6 is currently Xiaomi’s most visually pleasing smartphone. The Mi 6’s 5.15-inch display may be underwhelming for those who love big screens but it’s refreshing to see a one-hand-friendly flagship in the smartphone world full of 5.5-inch models. The display offers a decent 1080p resolution and a vibrant brightness.

As for its user interface, Xiaomi incorporates the MiUi software in the Mi 6. The software is used not only because of its huge following of users but also because of its simple yet functional look. Also, the MiUi runs on the latest Android Nougat, making it more visually pleasing and responsive.

Furthermore, the Mi 6 runs on a Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 GPU that can support graphics-intensive games. It has a 6 GB of RAM, which is quite a big feature for a 5.15-inch smartphone. While its rear and front snappers are 12 MP and 8 MP, respectively.

Xiaomi’s latest flagship device, the Mi 6, is about to unveil in Malaysia and India. The flagship just received a certification from SIRIM Berhad, a Malaysian agency in charge with the certification of new smartphone models. So, it is expected to launch in the country soon and in other Asian countries as well. It will cost around 2000 RM in Malaysia, 23000 PHP in the Philippines, 600 SGD in Singapore, and 3,600 HKD in Hong Kong.

As revealed by Xiaomi, the Mi6 will not come with a headphone jack. The tech giant from China does seem to follow Apple after they get rid of the feature. Xiaomi’s explanation behind the removal of the headphone jack is the same as Apple’s: it is a piece of technology that dates back to a century and holds them back from making their smartphone as innovative as possible. Aside from that, removing the headphone jack allows them to pack a larger battery in the Xiaomi Mi6. This could be true as the flagship will house a 3350 mAh battery, more than 10% bigger than the 3000 mAh battery of Mi5.

With that, tech giants like Xiaomi gradually realize the benefits of removing the headphone jack. This enables them to fill a larger battery, better camera components, and make it easier to place phone parts for water resistance. Speaking of water resistance, Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the IP rating yet, however, they said that the flagship will stand up to splashes.

In the camera department, the Mi6 is expected to come with a decent 12 mp rear camera and an 8 mp front snapper, both cameras wield 4K video recording support. While the plus version of Mi6 will feature a dual camera setting on its rear.

It is believed that the Mi6 will just be a slightly improved version of Mi5 as both flagships host a 5.15-inch display. It is also slightly thicker by 20mm compared to the Mi5.  However, it might be better in terms of the chipset as the Mi6 is expected to host a Snapdragon 835 processor.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is already released in China last April 28 for 2,499 yuan which converts to around 1,574 RM, 510 SGD, 18,000 PHP, and 2,820 HKD. As of writing, Sony has not confirmed release dates for the flagship in other countries.
