As the smartphone industry becomes increasingly competitive, Sony has unfortunately started to slowly lose its relevancy. As part of its effort to regain its reputation amongst today’s smartphone consumers, the Japanese tech giants has unveiled a new addition to its Xperia line. Known as the Xperia XZ2 Compact, it is the smaller version of its latest flagship, the Xperia XZ2. Despite its tiny build, the XZ2 Compact is a feature-filled device designed for individuals who prefer smaller phones.
Design and Build Quality
Sony has done an excellent job in cramming all the main components of the standard Xperia XZ2 phone – internals, camera tech, and other bits and pieces – into a body half its size. However, unlike the XZ2 that sports a glass-clad body, the XZ2 Compact comes with a polycarbonate plastic cover for its rear. Like its bigger sibling, this device also features, consisting of rounded edges and smaller bezels, a welcomed departure to Sony’s signature squared-off design. The phone also has IP65/68 water and dust resistance, thus making it more durable and suitable to be used outdoors.
Screen and Speaker
Smartphones do not only serve as communication tools; to many, they are also treated as a mobile entertainment device as well. The XZ2 Compact is meant to deliver top-quality entertainment in the palm of your hand, sporting a 5-inch Full HD+ display with 1080p resolution which gives accurate colours and sharp details. The display also supports HDR playback, hence users will be able to enjoy HDR content from Netflix and YouTube.
The XZ2 Compact is also fitted with front-firing speakers that deliver superb audio quality. Featuring High-Resolution Audio and LDAC technologies, the sound projected by the phone complements the visual quality delivered by the screen.
Under its hood, the XZ2 Compact is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset that is backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. This combination of internals enables the device to deliver amazing speed and flawless performance to handle whatever tasks you throw at it. From playing games to streaming movies online, users are treated to a wholesome entertainment experience.
One of the main highlights of the XZ2 Compact is its cameras. The phone comes with a 19MP Motion Eye rear camera with a memory-stacked image sensor that takes photos and videos in all conditions. Speaking of videos, the rear camera is able to take 4K HDR Movie recording, meaning that near cinema-quality footage is at your fingertips.
users are also able to record about 3 seconds’ worth of 960fps slo-mo footage at 1,080p resolution. In front, the XZ2 Compact houses a 5MP selfie camera that comes with an improved image signal processor (ISP). The ISP is designed to reduce noise, improve low-light performance and colour reproduction.
