Huawei P20 Lite Review – Flagship Specs on a Budget-Friendly Device
Not everyone can afford a flagship smartphone. However, now that midrange and budget models have become more feature-filled and advanced, flagship smartphones no longer seem as desirable as they once were. Hence, smartphone manufacturers like Huawei are starting to develop affordable yet reliable midrange smartphones for its Malaysian consumers. This brings us to the Huawei P20 Lite, the wallet-friendly version of the P20 flagship. Despite having stripped-back specs compared to the standard flagship model, the P20 Lite still offers commendable features that make it a value purchase.
Design and Build
Despite being coined as a midrange phone, this Huawei phone has aesthetics that put it on par with more expensive phones available today. In fact, place the P20 Lite side-by-side with any flagship device in the market today and you will struggle to find a significant difference. Measuring 71.2 x 7.4 x 148.6mm, the P20 Lite is compact enough for one-handed usage. Its rounded corners also make the phone more comfortable to hold. Weighing only 145g, it is also one of the lightest phones around. This Huawei smartphone is available in four colours: Midnight Black, Klein Blue, Sakura Pink, and Platinum Gold.
In terms of its display, the P20 Lite comes with a 5.84-inch IPS LCD screen which gives off a 2,280 x 1,080pixel resolution. This Full-HD screen ensures that images are crisp while colours are naturally produced, which makes for an enjoyable experience when it comes to playing games or watching films on the device. The screen has a sensitive ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts its brightness accordingly to the surrounding. You will have no problems using this phone outdoors as the elements onscreen will remain visible.
For a midrange smartphone, the P20 Lite packs quite a punch thanks to the internal hardware it is equipped with. This mobile phone comes with a Kirin 659 processor, which is comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 used in many other rival units in the same price category. Supporting the processor is 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM which ensures that the phone can handle all tasks with ease. There is also an option to further expand the storage to 256GB via microSD. This combination of specs ensures that the phone can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and switch between apps without lagging.
Despite its affordable price tag, Huawei ensures that the P20 Lite follows the latest trends; the phone features dual cameras at the rear. The dual cameras comprise of a 16MP sensor with a f/2.2 aperture that is paired with a 2MP sensor with a f/2.4 aperture. With ample lighting, photos taken are sharp and colourful without being overexposed. The 16MP front camera is also quite impressive, capable of snapping natural selfies that can instantly be uploaded to your social media accounts.
