Google Home Malaysia Review - A Dwarf in Size but A Giant in Features
Google is often recognised for incorporating cutting-edge technologies into devices and gadgets that the company manufactures; the Google Home Mini is no different. The Home Mini is a voice-controlled speaker that can be used for more than just playing music. It also provides a wide variety of functions including controlling home gadgets, creating schedules and appointments, and locating smartphone that you had misplaced. Simply said, it provides all the functionalities of the Google Home in a way smaller package. Below is a rundown of the speaker’s top features.
Design and Build Quality
One advantage that the speaker has is its compact build that is small enough to be brought around wherever you go or placed in any room without taking up too much space. The speaker looks like a macaron with a mesh fabric on the top with matte plastic on the bottom half. The fabric top also acts as the main interface for the device when you do not want to activate it via voice command. Tapping the left or right of the mesh top will turn the volume down or up while tapping the middle enables you to pause music, stop an alarm or cancel a command. The Home Mini is available in three colours – chalk, charcoal, and coral red.
Despite being the most affordable Google Assistant-enabled speaker available, the Google Home Mini does not suffer in terms of performance. Its voice recognition system is sensitive enough to detect your voice even if you are shouting from across the room. The Home Mini comes with only one speaker, so it is understandable that the volume is considerably low compared to its larger sibling with three speakers. However, it is still sufficient for listening to music, podcasts, etc.
One of the features that the Home Mini offers is to stream music from multiple portals such as Spotify, YouTube Music, iHeartRadio, and so on. However, if you are merely using it as for music then you are undermining its potential. As it can be voice activated, you can command it to perform simple tasks such as setting alarms, arranging schedules on your calendar, and getting the weather report. The Google Home Mini can also act as a smart home hub to control with other Internet of Things devices you have at home from brands such as TP-Link and Philips Hue.
